I love gymnastics and softball as much as the next Bama fan, and yes, our slumps right now are frustrating...

but man, I haven't lost a minute or sleep over it. As long as football is humming along beautifully and basketball isn't a dumpster fire, it's going to take a LOT for me to get up energy to press on our non-revenues.

NOW, the last time I was miffed was 10 years ago around 2007 when we missed the women's college world series, missed the gymnastics Super Six entirely and we were in the middle of Shula's last season and Saban's first growing pain season.

Our fanbase and facilities are fine, so it just comes down to the coach. I don't think us being worse than LSU is the new normal.

I'd disagree there. LSU's brand new facilities put our gym to shame. I think our gym was built in the 90s and it's last face lift was in like 2011 or so.

Why are you being so defensive in this thread? Nobody is trying to bash anybody. Hell, half your answers re: the conference are in line with my initial observation.

We're cearly and definitely have not performed as well at either the last 3-4 years than we did for the previous decades in gym and the 2009-2012 stretch in softball, either nationally or conference wise. That isn't debatable.

The point was to ask why and if it was to be expected given the rest of the confference catching up or whether we should still expect to be innovating and staying ahead of the curve. Feel like I've said that 3 times now.

If you don't know the sport, you shouldn't discuss it. UF, UT, LSU, Bama and sometimes UGA were all the top dog in softball and still is..

Again, "one of the 2 top dogs" as in 2 of us competing for titles conference wide and nationally year in and year out. You can keep telling everyone who disagrees with you they shouldn't talk and know nothing all you want, but the facts are simple.

2009-2012 : 5 SECT/RS Titles, 3 CWS, 3 Final 4s, 1 national title, 86-21 SEC

2013-2016 : 1 SECT Title, 3 CWS, 1 Final 4, 0 national titles, 66-31 SEC

The question, for the 4th time, is should this be ok? Is it to be expected with he rest of the league stepping up it's act? Nobody is saying "we suck" or "we are mediocre". And my "should this be ok?" is not a leading question, I'm truly asking everyone their thoughts. The answer may be "yes".

I said I don't know the inner workings of both programs, I didn't say I don't follow them. I follow them both pretty closely.

I'm just here to bitch about our women finishing 9th in my sport at sec's this weekend. Can't do it on my fb cause not trying to piss off the chicks i swam with using my sport and women's results... uga, uf, and auburn are all down in a sport they've all won multiple sec/ncaa titles in. Auburn was 5, uf 7th... a&m is the team who has really stepped it, but i doubt y'all care.

When the hell are they going to build a new swim facility?

While we're on about gymnastics. Literally yestersay, senior Mackenzie Brannan, disclosed on instagram that her achilles has ruptured. Her career is done.

The bad news, Mack Brannan was a reliable 9.9+ score every night.

The good news, she has only competed one event all year, bars.

Softball was a west coast game until the SEC stepped it up. Now Murphy needs to take something from Saban and adapt to stay the top dog.

Softball: Seems fine and not slumping at all relative to the competition. For a decade we were a 2-and out or 1-win team in the CWS. We had a couple good years where we were a contender but certainly not the clear favorite, and now we’re back to being a regular CWS team that probably won’t win it all. I still feel like we put a good product on the field though and could make a run to win it all any given year. The difference in us and UF last year was minimal.

Gymnastics: Maybe the loss of SP has me viewing it differently, but it seems like we’re sliding here. For several years, decades even, I felt like we were in contention to win it all any year. Now, not so much. We might still make the super 6, but there seems to be a considerable difference in Bama and the top 3 or 4 teams. We didn’t belong in the super 6 last year, and we’re on the outside currently this year. Maybe it’ll change in the coming years but this one seems more obvious because there are a quarter of the teams as softball and falling from 1st to 7th is huge.

I do, I care. I’ve got a couple of daughters who are competitive swimmers, one who has camped at Bama for 3 years. I care a lot. Unfortunately, I don’t think Ashlyn is fast enough to swim for Bama. She would love to but she’s lower D1 or D2 material. As for the new Nat, I don’t know. You tell me. The plans were approved a couple of years ago and it was supposed to be started shortly after the Joe was done. I don’t know WTH is taking so long. Our natatorium is embarrassing, probably the worst facilities on campus and our team deserves better.

Is it coincidental that Auburn stepped up their softball program with Clint Myers? Maybe they hurt our recruiting. We went from having the pick of recruits in state to having to compete with the shiny new kid in town at the Barn.

It's funny, because when we went back to back in 11/12 the rant was ready to run DD off because she hadn't won a SEC championship since the first one back in 1981. They love her again now.

And as much as I love Sarah Patterson, Let's not act like she didn't have championship droughts too. After winning one in 1996 she didn't win one until 2002 and her next was nine years later in 2011. Between 1996 and 2011 UGA won 7 titles and UCLA went from 0 titles to 5 titles.

It took us 16 years to win the programs first and only championship, and somehow you think that automatically equates them to winning numerous right after.

This. Oklahoma won their first national title in 2000. They made the WCWS every year from 2000-2004. They didn't make it again until 2011. They have now won 3 out of the last 5 WCWS. We barely missed the WCWS last year and some of us are freaking out

Um, ok? I follow both golf programs pretty closely too. I know nothing about swimming and diving, T&F or tennis (sorry MoarKilometers).

Let me know if you need me to provide some backup documentation or if we can just have a discussion about the 2 programs like non-children.

Agreed. Slump suck, but they happen. Gotta ride'em out if you trust your staff to right the ship.
