I know it's touristy and I have no idea how we found our way up there, but it was cool for us to hike up right below the Hollywood sign for pictures.
I like Malibu...my kids had fun reserving surfing lessons there. Not sure what the temps are then...they do provide a wetsuit.
Just driving around Beverly Hills was nice to see how the poors live.
And for me...I liked hitting the Sunset Strip and seeing the Rainbow, the Whiskey, etc...just for the hair metal history lol.

A few good food options without the high end prices.
Fish Tacos - Baha style (Taco Nazo / Baha California Tacos / Baha Catch & Grill)
Lucille's Smoke House (named after BB King's guitar) - I think maybe 8 or 10 locations
The Old Spaghetti Factory - several locations

A personal favorite of mine is driving the Pacific Coast Highway from around Santa Monica up to Solvang(cool old Nordic city) and San Luis Obispo. It obviously goes further, but for a day trip that’d be fun. It’s a beautiful drive with some fun stops on the way.
That's my area. About a 3.5 hour drive from LA proper, but the majority of the trip is right on the coast if you stick to the PCH and 101. Definitely worth the drive if you have time and want to get out of the city and see some of this incredible coastline.
Have a great trip, and Roll Tide Roll!

Father/son team wearing Alabama gear last seen riding a mountain lion down the slope from the Hollywood sign. Details at 11:00... Now back to the game at the Rose Bowl.

Avoid Western BLVD at all costs and you will be fine. If you stick around Pasadena you won’t be near there anyway.

The shuttle lines were terrible when we went. We ended up just walking through the neighborhood. It was a nice walk.

That is what my dad said. He went in 2023.

Man...more great info and humor
donkey shows and mountain lion warnings
I booked us at the Olivia hotel across the street from the later day saints temple in West LA. Looks good, but can change if necessary.
I think we are going to catch the Lakers/Pistons game on Tue night.
We will hike to the observatory one of the free days
Fish off the SM pier if allowed, and probably walk to muscle beach and famous bball courts . see skateboarding/surfing and stuff
might drive north on PCH for awhile. My wife and I thought it was really cool driving it south from SF a decade ago.
thank you all for the info
We are going to destroy Indiana! ihope.....

West Hollywood
Avoid this part of town or you might come back with rubbers hanging out your arse.
If you're interested in music check out the Sunset Strip. The Whiskey, Rainbow Bar & Grill, and others are where many famous bands cut their teeth.

Also I forgot but if you do go to San Diego for a day, do it 100% for the zoo. It’s one of the best zoos in the country if not the world.
100% this. One of only 4 places in the country you can see live Pandas and their exhibit there is fantastic.

Wonder if this flooding in L.A. is going to have any kind of affect on the game. Of course, a football game is trivial compared to all of the people that will be affected by this, but its something to watch.

We are going to get our outside activities in one Tue and Wed. It looks like more rain Thurs-Sat. unfortunately.
You are correct though, with the amount of rain they have had recently, and more tomorrow, i hope doesn't contribute to the mudslide issues in that area....

It can be but I actually thought San Francisco was a worse driving experience for me.
SF post covid is a shell of its precovid self from a traffic (and otherwise) standpoint in the couple trips I’ve had up that way.
I drove through a couple months back on the way to wine country late afternoon and I kept waiting for gridlock that never happened.
Pre-Covid it was a nightmare.

Yes last time I drove out there was around 2018 so that makes sense. I like the central coast best anyway. Some of my best friends live in LA so I’ll get to see them in a few days with a football game to boot!

If you’re going to do do any site seeing then you do it before the day if the game 100%. The traffic and Rose Bowl parade is awesome and creates pandemonium all up until the start of the game. Once the parade is ending it is like a herd of fans making their way to the stadium. Honestly, Pasadena is the most beautiful MadMen don draper style town they let be turned into a shite hold, with bars on the windows. Bama fans and Indiana fans will be the only English speaking people. The events, the parade, the stadium and the game is amazing. Something every fan should go to in my opinion. Roll Tide and have fun.

Well that sucked....LOL just kidding... it was a great trip except for:
1) our pathetic showing on the field in the RB
2) heavy rain 3 of the 5 days
Thank you very much again for everyone giving me good advice. We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Van Nuys north of UCLA
Tues - checked out Santa Monica Pier, muscle beach and the ocean, etc... it was the best day weather wise
Wed - best day - spent 4-5 hours at The Getty. A must see. I was really impressed
Thurs - Parked on the street next to the Post office 2.5 hours before kickoff. 80% indiana fans unfortunately. Once we got through the gates, I was SO surprised how nicely everything is laid out at the Rose Bowl. Never had to wait for the bathroom, Huge array of food and drinks to choose from, no bathroom waiting. We were in the area just to the side of the band, 10 rows from the top on the 15 yard line. I was shocked how awesome the view was. No need to pay top dollar to see the game at RB. Had our picture taken with Greg Byrne. Nice guy, he was just walkin around in the stands greeting bama fans.
Friday - went to the aquarium in Long beach
Saturday - went to The Broad downtown
We decided to pass on the Laker games...Huge Spurs fan since 1990..couldn't stomach paying into the Laker program
Hope everyone else (Sandkhan, etc..) who went had a good time like we did..

I’m glad you had a good time my friend. Yes that was pretty unlike most LA trips, but I still had fun. Ended up with some friends on New Year’s Eve. Played some blackjack at Hollywood Park.
I knew the IU fans would outnumber us, but I was surprised by how many. They were all very friendly and that made the experience more tolerable. I could find myself being happy for them instead of disgusted. Their players were also all class
Agree with you on Byrne. I’ve met him a few times and he’s a man of the people for sure.
I sat by a Big 10 and former Pac 10 ref who was openly cheering for IU. That was pretty wild
