Surprised no one is talking about the worst coached series of Grubbs life.

We get that massive INT then Grubb dials up the most obvious screen pass ive ever seen.
There was literally nothing else that play could have been other than a double pass, but it was Crowell so it was obvious that it wasnt.
Grubb has overall been better this year, but man does he overthink it way too much.

GAs oc: let's throw it at 5 and run
Grubbs: well running up the middle is working let's pull 2 linemen to the left and run to the hole they vacated. There's no way they'll think we're stupid enough to run there.
GAs dco: look at these dumbasses, running to where they just pulled two lineman. Man they make this easy

Our side passes and side-ways runs mostly got stuffed. You can't go side-to-side on Georgia. They were waiting for that and they're too fast for it. Grubbs play-calling is always unpredictable for the good and bad. It was a miracle we scored on the run call before halftime but he was leaning on his OL play. Can't fault him for that. At least he didn't run a reverse or something. ........Grubb seemed to go away from the offense he has been calling this year but there might have been several things involved for getting more conservative. Mostly trying to calm a young QB against a very good D. We were obviously not as dynamic as we have been all year. But Georgia played 2 deep safeties near the whole game and was not going to let us get explosive plays.

Which is why Grubb should have run the ball more.

we should have played safe and got the FG on Hubbards INT instead of trying to manufacture a TD

Play should've been wiped for the face mask in all fairness.
But I agree. Dumb play call.

Bama has a QB that has elite speed. Ga has had problems with teams with a QB that can run and pass. There should have been some designed runs for Keelon. Those runs will have helped to wear Ga's defense down. The east/west passes do not work against Ga. Those were wasted downs.

Brooks did not even attempt to block on that play.

Yeah exactly but the play down on the goal line with 3 seconds in the first half was outstanding.

I know it's hindsight but imagine we played FG there and on the last offensive series = defending the lead with 2 minutes in the game instead of trailing and trying to get the ball back.

It was frustrating. Considering Bama was running the ball pretty well. The jet sweeps and screens just haven’t worked too well for us except for a few occasions. It really forces the receiver to have to make the first man miss.

It looked like we had a lot of missed blocks on various runs. We simply didn’t have our A game and UGA made very few mistakes outside of a snap here or there.
Very unlikely we beat UGA when they retain four fumbles and get 3-5 backbreaking calls in their favor, the margin is too close.
Only two games Bama has ever clearly lost due to officiating IMO are TN (goalpost game) and UGA 2026 IMO.

No worse than Bobo's bubble screens that we blew up several times. Those plays work all the time for Georgia, and they had every reason to expect they would work against us. However, we have a physical, fast, and talented defense that negated the play. Should he be pilloried for those failures?
I don't fault Grubb for believing in his team's ability to block and make plays, only to have to learn that the other defense is not going to allow it.
At the end of the day, this game was a blessing for our team. They got to see an elite defense, and 1. learn how to play against such defenses, and 2. learn that they absolutely can stay on the field with an elite defense. Our offense will get much better because of it.
The other thing is that for the first time we didn't throw a hidden game plan at Georgia. We went straight up, toe-to-toe with them, and held our own. Come postseason, not only will we be more experienced, but I'll bet we have a few new wrinkles for them.
I feel like Georgia came out with an up-til-now unshown offensive run scheme, and that we will be more prepared for it in the postseason.
Add in a Keelon Russell who's "been there before," and things may be different.

To be fair, it failed because of the blockers. He had numbers.
Screens are effectively extensions of the run game, that was trying to get Crowell with a running lane and full head of steam into the secondary.
