Kansas rushing the field got me thinking. The only time that I remember Bama rushing the field was the ‘90 Iron Bowl. I got as far as the chain link fence at Legion Field and decided against it, ha. Was there any other game?

Feel like there was an article on this recently. Maybe after the incidents at Tennessee last year. Alabama has never done it at BDS. Seem to recall it mentioning a few at Legion Field.

There was also the Tennessee fans that tried to in 1995. Several were arrested.

I think I remember a few hundred people on the field after Bear’s 315th victory over the booger eaters at Legion Field. But I have never recalled Alabama rushing the field the way other teams do. I was at Bear’s last game, and no one rushed the field except for two orthree very unfortunate young men. The Memphis police were very serious that night! I remember watching one of the guys see how the Memphis police took him down around the 30 yard line so he took off for the fence and when he got to the fence, the police officer caught him and pull him back into the field and started beating him with his night stick.

Bama fans tore down the goalposts in the Superdome after beating Ohio State in the 1977 Suagr Bowl.

They thought they had won the national championship.

I thought we sorta rushed the field after the Van Tiffin kick in 1985. I may be remembering wrong.

I was gonna say the same thing...I think there were more people on the field than was supposed to be. Not sure it was "rushing the field" though

Considering how many insane people are out there these days, to me, it's only a matter of time before someone is stabbed or shot on the field while it's pandemonium out there.

If the SEC and or the NCAA starts penalizing schools to the tune of $10 million per instance of people storming the field, I bet you'd see an end to the practice.

They let it become too much of a thing and have acted slow on nipping it in the bud. Fines aren’t going to stop fans. If you’re going to fine, then it needs to be a million to the opposing school. Really like the idea of loss of a home game.

We did not rush the field after the Kick. Legion Field always had security around the field after the games. If wanted to get beaten with Billy Clubs go ahead and try.
They were the biggest mean looking dudes you have ever seen.
I have been going to Alabama games since the 1960's we have
never rushed the field after a game. Most of the time we have been favored.

I don’t remember the goalposts being brought down after the 1978 Sugar Bowl with Ohio State. I did go on the field afterwards. I was 10. My Dad said let’s go and we just kind of strolled out there. Fans seemed to do this much more back then. I patted Tony Nathan on the back and thought it was the greatest thing ever.

We absolutely had fans storming the field after the ‘90 Iron Bowl. I was standing at the fence watching it. It wasn’t thousands simply because of the fencing. Cops were rounding folks up and sitting them under the goalposts.
From AL.com:

So a 16-7 Crimson Tide win lit a powder keg in the Alabama student section, and eventually, the Legion Field artificial turf. News accounts differed on numbers and video of the postgame wasn’t clear but Alabama students tried to rush the field as the game ended and Birmingham police officers were there to greet them.

“I saw several of them swinging billy clubs,” Alabama student Harold Lambert, then 24, told The Birmingham News. “One cop was swinging back and forth as hard as he could at anybody he could. They were swinging wildly. One of the officers pulled his gun out. He pulled it out and was waving it. They were out of control.”

I took my wife and kids to the '85 Van Tiffin kick game in '85. I don't remember fans rushing the field. I just remember us standing and cheering for a long time.

Not game celebration, but I remember a lot of us going on the field after the last game on turf in Bryant-Denny. They let us cut strips.

I was only 15 at the time. I just thought I remembered seeing way more people on the field than usual. A lot of that day was an awesome blur.

90 Iron Bowl

And the cops beat the shite out of many of them.

I read an article looking into it. The other two "Bama field rushes" at home by Bama fans were:
- 1956 at Denny Stadium vs MSU to end a 19 game losing streak from '54-'56
- 1958 Iron Bowl at Legion Field to end a 4 year losing streak

I was there. I remember some people jumping over the fence and getting handled with a quickness. I don't remember a full-blown "rushing the field" at all.

Because they saw what happened when the lead group decided to f**k around and find out.

Approximately 20 people were arrested on the field but a few got away because the 50-60 police officers on-site for crowd control ran out of handcuffs.

“One of the kids with us ran and two police officers went after him and grabbed him as he climbed the fence,” student Brian Shafer told The Birmingham News. “The crowd was hitting the police officers and they were hitting back. The crowd helped him get over the fence. He ran off and got away.”

Police brutality accusations followed but then-Alabama athletics director Hootie Ingram defended the response to the fans by noting repeated PA announcements warning against entering the playing field. Ingram said the police action might have prevented serious injury, according to an Associated Press story.

All charges against the fans were eventually dropped, according to a Dec. 18 Birmingham News story, as long as they agreed not to sue the city.
