This whole thread is subjective.

Remember, just because you don't touch the football doesn't mean your not the best player on the team.

Remember, this is your opinion and folks have their own personal opinions. Some folks would argue skill players would be better players due to measurables.

Valuable football positions =/= Best Football Players. It's an apples to orange comparison.

It's like saying Joe Thomas was a better football player than Tom Brady, the last 10 years.

I want to argue with you, but I feel like I can't nail down what you're trying to say and that you've completely misunderstood something/everything.

^^^This is just random, self-contradictory nonsense.

1) Every position has "measurables." And what can you infer about a skill position player from his "measurables" that you can't from another player? Does a WR's height matter, but an OLB's doesn't?

2) I certainly didn't saying anything about "valuable" football positions, which would be both childlike nonsense and... What does it mean? All positions are "valuable."

3) What equates to apples and what equates to oranges in your metaphor? Is apples "valuable players" and oranges "best football players"? Who are you telling that those things aren't equal? Not me, certainly, as I never flew anywhere near that airspace.

3b) Are you for or against the idea that skill positions are more important? Do you even know?

4) Are you high? Like Mexican-prison quaaludes high?

5) Despite your incoherent babbling, I've gathered that you've never played the game or you wouldn't have indicated that you believe skills positions are more or less valuable (couldn't figure out your point) than non-skill positions. All positions are crucial.

quote:

This whole thread is subjective.

As opposed to all the other threads that are bastions of objectivity?

I apologize for being so condescending, but your post just brought it out. I'm happy to discuss something with you, but you wildly misunderstood what I said. And I know I didn't understand what you said at all. Maybe next time.

Well that's because it's easy to do. Another guy that hasn't contributed a ton even though we needed depth. We missed out on our top targets at the position the last couple years and now we just have to hope that lower rated guys like Dwight etc work out as well as Payne, Reed, Robinson, Chapman etc. I know I probably worry too much but I can't believe I am the only one who is worried about the middle of the line. We are down to much lower rated guys from prior recruiting rankings and guys who are smaller than what we typically see at the position. It hasn't been this bad since 2007.

I have to disagree with you.

Since you're worried about the "middle of the line" in a 3-man front, then you are worried about 1 position - Nose Tackle. And at that position we have a starter who had a really nice spring and are developing depth behind him. That seems fairly par for the course in July.

Secondly, we don't recruit or want to have a giant NT like we did years ago. We've gone smaller on the Dline 100% by choice.

Thirdly, our Dline posions are more fluid now, with DEs and NTs being fairly interchangeable. In the first drive in the spring game, R. Davis was lined up at Nose.

In summation, all Bama needs to do is get a 6-man rotation for 3 spots, and between Davis, Buggs, Williams, Dwight, Mathis, Ray, Richardson, Musika, and Wynn Jr., I think we can do that. I feel really good about the starters of Davis, Buggs, and Williams. And that second unit needs to emerge in Fall camp. Again, I think this is fairly par for the course.

I'd love to have a tad more depth, but it's not possible for every position group ideally stacked each and every year. We've got some work to do, but we've got the best Dline coach in the country.

Relax.

Hey, if Brian Motley wouldn't have busted his hand before the season, he could have been a force

I only say that partly in jest, as Saban talked him up a LOT there after moving from OL(he was a quick, technique guy). Motley and Zo Washington are actually 2 of my favorite Saban era players, they just weren't very good NGs.

Kirby Smart really liked Dwight too, compared him to Marcell Dareus. Clearly didn't turn out that way, but there was a play or 2 where he flashed last season.

2014 was a year where a guy like Brandon Ivory was acceptable at NG because he had talent around him covering his flaws. I think it's easy to say William's can be in the same ballpark at worst, there's still tons of talent on the front 7.

Now excuse me, I've reminded myself of the gaping gash that was the middle of the defense against Georgia Southern in 2011. No Chapman, no Williams, a greener than goose shite Ivory, and Undra Billingsley having to play as the emergency 4th NG

I'm not sure Najee is the best RB. Robinson looked more promising last season in my opinion. I'm going to go with Deionte Thompson as the best player on the team.

I knew there would be a wide variety of answers to this question. He certainly looked great when his number was called and I hope our interior dlinemen do the same this season. Thompson is a good answer.

If you're saying that you are exemplifying the appropriate amount of effort, and that effort yields gems like this:

I had considered him one of the more obvious answers to the question, and he was mentioned on page one.

I'm not really sure what you are getting at. Anyone who knows football will tell you that the single most important factor regarding winning football games is winning the Line of Scrimmage. The game is won in the trenches, period. Always has been.
