Wow I honestly can't remember the local Mets here in Huntsville be so sure on snow the morning of the event, then back off completely 2 hours before it starts. Doubt anyone is too upset but the whole city is basically shut down.

Sounds like South in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa has a decent shot, hope you guys stay safe.

At what point do we start holding these people's feet to the fire? This happened multiple times over consecutive years.

Most people are just happy with a snow day, but weather forecasting as a whole has declined over the last 10 or so years.

Let me guess, Spann is blaming everyone else while being completely wrong?

It's Trumps fault. The chaos created by pulling out of the Paris Accord really has screwed up the weather. We're all going to be dead in 12 years if they don't fix it.

This is BS. I had White Russian ingredients ready and everything. I means I’m still gonna drink it but it’s just not the same

I had been typing a long and thoughtful post after reading this, but then I re-read your OP and realized it wasn't worth it. You clearly don't understand the complexities of weather forecasting.

i just wonder how many of them actually bother to look up from their computer screens to take a peek outside these days? i seen one computer model that said it would be -50 in minneapolis today. well it's only -9, missed it by 41 degrees. how do they keep their jobs.

Obviously this system was not the typical setup for snow, really unusual not to be the total gulf setup. However 48 hours out all the major models showed snow in Huntsville and the local Mets had to buy in. Then the short range models really showed the picture that it wasn't happening, but everyone was hesitant to change the forecast.

I am guessing the events in Atlanta and Birmingham has really restricted their ability to put out forecasts that don't have some extreme caution.

I for one am super excited it missed. Working in LE, these type weather events (when they come to fruition) are a nightmare and fricking suck

Morning gents. Back from my 21 days of prayer (and fasting of this site and several other things). Learned some things about myself too.

Anyway, ready for some spring ball.

I think everyone understands the complexity. The problem is their forecasts don't happen in a vacuum. Birmingham media had wall-to-wall coverage of this as if it was an impending nuclear attack because they want ratings. Then you have media like Spann who feed the hype machine on social media. Add all of that to the fact that everyone is still overreacting to Snowmageddon by thinking every potential winter storm will be like that instead of taking a common sense approach.

We now have busts like this every Winter. Half the state shuts down a day in advance instead of taking a more common sense approach. There's no reason that schools couldn't take a wait & see approach with this system & make the call early this morning.

Spann is a douche who cares way too much about his "celebrity" and should've been held more accountable (along with others) for the mess back in 2014. Not only did they completely blow that prediction but they were also extremely smug about it leading up to the event, which led to the lack of cancellations. His smugness continues to this day if you look at his social media. He'll isolate any critical posts so his pack of followers can attack them.

the problem is there isn't really room for error in the south. if they say "no snow" and like a half inch drops - its a disaster in the south.
