Riley goes down way too easily but is more shifty. Hill is a tough runner but like you said is not quick.

I think the 1-2 punch should be the two of them. I’d not sure what advantage Jam brings at this point considering his pass blocking has gone to shite too

Jam Millers pass protection has not been great since the Tennessee game. Everyone wants to assume Ty has some injury but we know Miller is coming off a collarbone break and a pretty serious looking head injury. He's not been the same since that knockout blow v. Mizzou. He was engaging free rushers in the hole before the injury, he's been just letting them run through him since. He was a one cut and go runner before the injury, he's a tap dancer since the injury.

I surely hope so because Ty Simpson has hit a bit of a wall but has indicated he can operate a progression read passing attack at a high enough level to beat quality conference opponents. If Milroe wasn't cooking on QB runs, his whole game fell apart because reading a defense was like reading hieroglyphics for Jalen Milroe.

He is certainly not “the best.” Nor is Ty the most talented. He is the most experienced and the least likely to turn the ball over, but if he’s turning it over now, I don’t see the harm in playing the better prospects. Honestly, missing out on Drake Maye hurt a lot to a degree, because we ended up stuck with two Saban recruits, Milroe and Simpson.

Yeah, if there were only a better example, like switching QB's at half-time in a National Championship, or something.

Tua had a ton of playing time during the season in 2017. Like, a lot for any backup QB. It's not even close to the same situation given how few live reps the backups have gotten this year.

Tua also took a majority of the snaps during bowl game practice because Hurts was sick.

Yep I remember that now that you say it. The scuttlebutt was Tua got a serious look during the Sugar Bowl lead up. It came out later that it was just Hurts being sick. However, it helped prepare Tua to play further down the road.

I personally like what he’s saying and I agree 100%. The rest of y’all are such superfans you can’t handle facts and the truth. You guys act like you will lose your fan card if you admit Ty has regressed tremendously since the Missouri game.

I don’t care what Ty ever does, I’ll never miss Milroe and LANK.

I can assure you I am not one of those crimson-tinted glasses types who cannot accept any criticism levied at the coaches or players. Ty's problems are complicated. Some of them are his own in their entirety, some are due to his teammates, some are due to his coaches.

Does Ty need to play better? Hell yeah. But to act like changing a QB is going to fix our problems is insane. We can't run, sometimes due to the back, sometimes due to the blocking. Our pass protection is just inconsistent enough to be backbreaking. Our best athlete on offense is not a reliable pass catcher and a sloppy route runner. Ty Simpson needs to be playing at a high-end professional level for this offense to hum. He did it for a few weeks but opponents started triangulating on what he does well and what his teammates don't do well. If we want early SEC schedule Ty Simpson back, we need the players around him to step up.

It is pretty fricking hard to play quarterback with no run game and 3 of the 5 OL positions unsettled heading into game 12. I don't know what y'all expect but it sounds like you expect NFL MVP caliber production from a first year starter in FBS.

And let's remember, since people love bringing this example up, Tua got brought in after the half and won it all was as much due to the other 21 players on the field as him. He made some really boneheaded true freshman decisions but his defense bailed him out of the first one (bad interception around midfield) and a freshman WR cooking a veteran corner bailed him out of the 2nd one (the awful sack he took in OT). What he did bring was execution of the passing offense. It can't be understated. He moved the ball down the field for that first TD and the run game was opened up from there on out.

His impact was huge but that was an incredibly talented team that needed a passing game because Kirby was not going to let Alabama do Hurts RPO-style murderball on him to win a national title. This is not remotely the same situation. We cannot run the ball because we have mediocre tailbacks and an inconsistent OL. This is not a team with 4 1st round WRs, 3 RBs who started for NFL teams, and an OL with several guys who started on NFL teams or were 1st round draft picks. Changing quarterbacks is not the fix in this case.

Is Ty making mistakes? Sure but I don't think Mack or Russell would be doing any better in these circumstances. Ty wouldn't need to be nailing everything like he's Tom Brady if his teammates played better.

Pretty sure we put a true freshman tackle in that hadn’t played most of the year (and possibly didn’t even start that NC game).

Also, if you’re struggling running the ball or protecting, sometimes the most athletic QB you have is the best option then. I’m not saying Russell is ready, but it can be true that if your OL and RBs are struggling, playing the fastest player may make sense (depending on how big the drop is in reading the defense and making throws).

Jonah Williams was injured. That’s why Leatherwood went in.

He hasn’t reached Milroe level of ineptitude(not even close really) but he is not playing good ball right now

He’s playing like he needs to score on every play. He needs to accept when the play is dead. Survive and live to play another down.

Hurts couldn’t operate any semblance of a passing game, in 2017 we were lucky if he had 100 yards throwing in a game after taking away all the pop passes.

If you go back and watch that Auburn game, it was incredibly bad. Any sign of a run defense basically shut us down. It was a horrendous matchup for Hurts because Kirby had coached his guys so they could basically just snuff out most of our plays

Our run game is poor but not comparable to a Hurts passing offense. Luckily passing is the more efficient play, so we’ve been able to get by.

I felt like Tua should have replaced Jalen in the 2017 Auburn game. Hurts absolutely couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn toward the end of that season. Remember that we nearly got upset by Miss. State that year. Ironically, it was a last minute touchdown by DeVonta Smith that won it.
