To add on about St. Mary's:

They don't seem to have a lot of depth. If we just play efficient with good FG%, limiting them to one shot w/ defensive rebound, and low turnovers, I think we can grind on these guys. Especially on the 2nd game of the weekend. However if we play sloppy then this team could really frustrate us.

Another thought: getting Reid back cannot be understated. He was playing great in the OOC and was basically giving up about 10 points a night once he got rolling. He's probably got the most "play above the rim" ability of anybody on the roster. Could be big factor if we can Just Win Baby.

My only issue is us not valuing our possessions in a close game. Sears and Youngblood took some horrible threes at times we didn’t have to have that shot. If we take better shots in those situations we cruise to victory. Youngblood shot one and we had no rebounder under the basket. I love having our players play freely but at times just launching shots is not a smart idea.

My biggest concern with this team isn't running into a team like Florida - because they're on the other side of the bracket, that's like worrying about an alien invasion at this juncture - but Alabama failing to make FTs and have low IQ possessions in the last 5 minutes of a game.

If Alabama loses on Sunday, it will almost certainly be due to late game turnovers, low quality/bad game situation shot, and missed free throws with under 5 remaining. It has been their warts all season.

Defense and rebounding have been a big issue at times like today and St. Mary's is a better rebounding team than Robert Morris. They are one of the top rebounding teams in the nation as far as differential and outrebounded Vandy 41-28 today.

They are solid on defense, limit their turnovers and don't tend to foul.

They aren't dynamic on offense this season but we really need to be better than today.

Good thing is that I think we will on Sunday. Hopefully, starting Grant and if Cliff is okay with good energy, I think we can be okay.

Still think our defensive planning and lack of adjustments is straight up awful and it has to change. Keep Philon at the 1 with Sears off ball. Aden needs his confidence back, Reid needs to keep building his stamina and play more because Youngblood isn't quick enough.

I agree. I wouldnt mind seeing him in the starting lineup with Philon and Sears. He is a tough matchup, especially for St Mary's.

This is the problem. They are Florida lite when it comes to a bunch of tall guys that rebound relentlessly. And they started to find their 3 point stroke towards the end of the game.

If we can’t stay close to even on the boards or they don’t have an abysmal shooting night, we could be in for a very nerve wracking game.

I agree. Concerned about handling St. Mary's discipline, defense, and rebounding. They have decent length on the perimeter and the Lithuianian guard will be an issue.

St Marys played basically 7 guys. (They had two guys come in and get 1 and 3 minutes respectively). Of the 7 that play significant minutes, 6 of them play 20+ minutes.

They have good size. 7'1, 6'10, 6'8, 6'6, 6'4, 6'3, 6'3. Three seniors, one junior, two sophs, one freshman. They all shoot the 3 ball except the 7'1 guy, who comes off the bench. It would be nice to get them in some foul trouble but i think they are pretty good about that. Looks like they play good team basketball.

Their freshman backup PG was 0-7 and 0-5 from 3. So they ran through Vandy with 6 guys contributing. We need to play physical and fast and beat them with our depth. Our bench was fire today.

100% agree that rebounding has got to be better. Grant Nelson had 3 rebounds in 7 minutes. That is what we were missing. Jarin Stevenson is just a stiff and lightweight down low on the box out. He gets pushed around and doesn't react well. Starting him at the 4 was a mistake but this staff loves him for reasons I can't quite understand. Cliff's 4 rebounds in 21 minutes is disappointing too. He did a great job finishing on dishes today but man has got get a dog check by the staff tomorrow. He will get embarrassed by guys less physically gifted than him if he doesn't lock in.

Starting Reid may not be in the cards but would love to see him get 5-6 more minutes Sunday if he's got the gas for it.
