Rank the starting QBs of the Saban Era (minimum two games)

AJ gets no respect. He won 2 NC and is one blown coaching decision away from winning a 3rd. He was not the most physically gifted QB at Alabama but he was a better competitor and smarter than most of these QBs under Saban. He could make all the throws and rarely made mistakes.

Ranking based only on overall college performances and achievements:

2. McCarron
3. Young
4. Jones
5. Hurts
6. Coker
7. McElroy
8. Sims
9. JPW
10. Milroe

If rankings go by passing abilities at the time they played at Bama, then move Hurts and Sims below JPW.

If you look at their college numbers AJs is right on board with Tua and Bryce. AJ was at a 67% completion percentage and had over 9000 career yards.

I ain't ranking shite, I'm moving on to fall football.

So many ways to rank based on accomplishments, natural ability, leadership, toughness, etc.

I can find great things about each of them. I don't see how AJ can't be at the top based on record. After that it gets hard.

I understand the roster he had around him, but Tua’s numbers are insane and on film he was the best too. I know in 2020 Mac had a higher completion percentage, but I challenge anyone to find me a guy who routinely dropped perfect dimes like Tua did. Highest career passer rating in FBS history, highest TD rate in FBS history. Robbed of a Heisman, but was Consensus AA, Maxwell winner, Walter Camp winner, etc.

He won one championship with a defense that didn’t give up a TD in eight quarters and change against the only team in the country that was even remotely comparable to UA that year.

He won his second with one of the greatest offensive lines in history and a beast of a RB in Lacy. ND’s D looked as invisible as Te’o’s girlfriend against the running game that night.

McCarron was a great QB, but he had all kinds of muscle on the roster with him back when physical dominance was a bigger part of the game.

He's at the top of my list. Jake Coker doesn't get enough love either. He became a playmaker. That rollout TD throw against AU, making a couple of guys miss? One of my favorites of all time. I don't recall him sliding. I don't recall him running out of bounds. Not afraid to throw a key block. Grew up dreaming of playing for Alabama. Looks (a bit) and talks (a lot) like Elvis.

What a fricking stud.

My list:
AJ because championships matter. He's the only one with 2.

Tua saved the season, the greatest play in Bama football history to win the natty

Mac Jones. Most dominant Bama team offensively ever. Did everything asked of him and was elite in college. Natty

Jake Coker - what a chad. Natty.

Bryce Young. Elite player. Both seasons ended in disappointment. Not sure about his leadership. Did beat Auburn twice.

Jalen Hurts, saved an SEC championship, handled everything with class. Everything you want in a Bama guy. No Natty.

Grec McElroy...probably doesn't get enough love. Didn't do a lot in the title game, but balled out against Florida. Natty

Blake Sims. What a fun revelation. Great season. No Natty.

JPW - 2008 remains one of my favorite seasons, but it ended without hardware and an embarassing loss to Utah.


Not ranking Milroe. His story is unfinished.
