The KKK submitted a protest application, huh? That's pretty wild. Has anyone in here actually ever seen the KKK in Alabama in the past 30 years?

Yes, I have. I remember vividly as a kid being at Tannehill and a guy in a sheet came up and handed me a card that said "You have been solicited by the KKK" He wasn't alone either. That may have been closer to 40 years ago, but I assure you, they haven't gone away. They may have updated their methods and are slicker but they are still the same old hood wearing KKK.

This!! I haven’t seen a KKK rally in Birmingham in my lifetime. I’m sure there are still members somewhere around, but I’ve never seen them. Sounds like a group just wanting to stir the pot

George Floyd had his memorial today. He's still "subdued."

I know that sounds like ancient history, but it's not like the 80's were the heart of the civil rights protests. We were supposed to be past that stuff in the 80's.

The KKK is not stupid either. They have rebranded themselves into other white supremacist movements. They are fully aware of the negative stereotype that conjures up to anyone with half a brain. My point is, if you think the KKK is some dinosaur from last century that only exists in fairy tales now, you're wrong.

This recently came up when Nike brought out their sneakers with the "Betsy Ross flag" on it. Kaepernick and others quickly took exception and immediately associated with the KKK and other hate groups today. Photographs of neo-nazi, KKK, and other white supremacists using the Betsy Ross flag at their rallies immediately started showing up. The tradition lives.

Complete guess, but one of the two they have in custody for shooting the officer started spilling some beans.

Disregard. Just saw the other post.

It's true that the KKK as an organization is irrelevant compared to a century ago. At one point there were millions of members; estimates now number them under 10k. That said, it's naive to think those people aren't out there obviously, whether they call themselves the klan or not, as we've seen today:

They've announced the arrest of the racist who threatened to assassinate Mayor Woodfin. The call audio that circulated online was apparently from a call made Monday but I do wonder if some of the rumors about white nationalists trying to rally downtown may have been related to movements tracking him down. I assume it is certainly related to them putting up fencing to protect the park today from the Facebook hate group that had been trying to organize as well.

quote:

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBMA) — A man was arrested for threatening the life of Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin.

49 year old Brian Stephen Vest was arrested at his home in Warrior, Alabama on Wednesday and charged with one felony count of making terrorist threats.

A police spokesperson confirmed that the arrest was made due to threats made on the mayor's life by phone on Monday, June 1.

He was being held in Jefferson County Jail on a $30,000 bond where he remained Thursday.

Mayor Woodfin said extra safety precautions were being taken because of people who made threats over the removal of a Confederate monument in downtown Birmingham. He did not mention Vest's arrest.

Court records did not show any previous arrests for Vest.

No need to post the audio of the call as it is horrific. Censored excerpts are transcribed in the second link.

What an awful existence you have to have to leave whatever shithole you are from, get your Klan buddies, and go to Birmingham looking to fight/counterprotest. Looters are obviously pieces of shite too. People suck man

There are people who are likely ANTIFA members at Linn Park violating their curfew. One girl said she had never been arrested in Birmingham, implying that she’s “protested” elsewhere. All of the peaceful protestors from the Birmingham area left prior to the curfew.

Minneapolis is disbanding their police department. Going to replace it with some public safety/civilian monitor thing.
