What players has Saban signed in the past that you thought would just suck and turned out to be a stud? Started thinking about this with the numbers situation with this years class and the thought we’ll have to cut a couple loose.

I wasn’t a fan when we signed SDH back in 2014, and I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Then of course where there’s the guy none of us want Saban to sign like Parker Mcloud, bc we know they are going to transfer.

Mark Ingram - I thought we just signed him because of his dad and his Michigan State connection.

Big Q Williams - I figured he would just be a career depth provider.

I definitely wasn’t expecting much out of Ingram. I was on the Ivan Matchett train I remember. I think he was out by freshman fall camp.

I thought Ben Davis would be a stud and thought Mack Wilson was overrated. I didn’t think he would suck, but didn’t think he was a 5 star either.

I wondered why we were signing a 3* running back from Oklahoma that had almost no other offers.

Player I loved that didn't pan out: Star Jackson
I was a star gazer back then and 5 stars seemed amazing for an Alabama QB.

Player I didn't understand that worked out: Marlon Humphrey
I really didn't like his film at all, saw tons of athletic potential, but didn't see any coverage skills that would make him a great DB.

Same here. I also thought that Kendall Kelly and Michael Bowman would be great receivers

I was kinda meh when we got Josh Jacobs. I trusted the staff knew what he could do, but I figured he would just be a 4th string or scout team back.

Note that I also didn't watch any of his tape

Eryk Anders was before Saban. I thought we were at the bottom of the barrel when we signed a zero star guy who was going to be a walk on at Ole Miss. What a bad time to be an Alabama fan. He didn't produce a lot of stats, but the Gilbert sack/fumble at the end of the 2009 NC was enough for me to say he's good and I'm glad we got him.

It seems like there is always that 3 star we find at the 11th hour that turns to be a stud.

Jalen. He just needed time and coaching to develop his passing skills.

Womack. Three star lineman that has played a solid role in the midst of higher rated guys

Q. Thought we were downgrading from Payne.

Mount Cody. Never thought he would contribute much at his weight.

I've realized in this thread I'm just awful at evaluating DBs... I also didn't love Averett coming.

I thought Mack Wilson was overrated and I thought D. Henry would have to play H-back. I'm stupid
