I’ll provide a very basic opinion in the middle of all this great analysis. If GA tries to win the middle 8, which they’re good at, and with ball control, which we know they do. And it’s a rather close game, which I am sure it will be (unless bama just goes apeshite on offense and the dawgs can’t keep up) -I really haven’t seen em play much this yr but they look the same as they always do). Limiting penalties on the bama side of the ball will be crucial. I can live with a hold here or there by a receiver, because to me that shows effort, but if Alabama is getting them into 3rd and 5, or if 2nd & 6’s when bama has the ball turn into 2nd and 11 because of bonehead penalties. That keeps drives alive for the other team and burns up clock which would not play into our hands in my opinion.

We have played more zone coverage this season.
The "guess" is that we are trying to prepare for mobile QBs to limit what they can do on scramble drills. Limit explosives.
My expectation for Saturday is the kitchen sink. It won't be one approach like we did to OU or Vandy. The objective will be limit the run and confuse the QB as much as possible.
I remember Ty Simpson had our defense pegged one game. Every pressure was picked up. Every blitz had a receiver occupying the vacated space. And that was as a first year starter.
DeBoer is more of a QB whisperer than baby Kiffin. Kiffin might be a better playcaller with a 15 second headset mic. But DeBoer knows how to make QBs know what to key on.
I expect Russell to be prepared.
The critical key to the game on offense for Alabama is whether the increased physicality from the offense holds up against a defensive unit I know will not be meek and invites the challenge of physical football.
This is a good midterm for our team in that respect. Are they more physical than the average football team or are they as or more physical than the very best?
If the answer is yes then I think that bodes very well for Alabama winning the game on Saturday. Smart, like Saban, is not going to let a team run all over his defense. He will go heavy cover 1 and plug up the gaps if it comes down to it. They'll challenge the manhood of their corners and hope for the best. However, I think Alabama can really take advantage of that off play action with the TEs and outside receivers.

I agree. I think your score spread is about right. I see a couple busted/explosive plays making the score a tad higher. I’m going
Bama 31
UGA 27
Bama 31
UGA 27

What bothers me is the 216 we gave up on the ground vs USCe

State is not meek on defense. They got overwhelmed.
They got tired. They got demoralized by injury too. But State is used to playing with a lead. They're used to doing the punching. BAMA punched back. Harder than anyone else.
This is what I'm expecting vs uga.
Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face.

Looks worse than it is. BAMA was up 35-10 at the half. BAMA even outscored them 14-8 in the 2nd half. Giving up 216 rushing yards to a team you are manhandling isn't that much cause for concern in my opinion. In fact, SC did us a favor running it so much instead of throwing it to their dynamic stud receiver.

I can see that. Had the game been tighter that could have been bad. The game vs UGA will be tighter. Hopefully that was a one off day.

That's definitely what happened. About 140 of their rushing yards came on the first play of the game and when they were down by 4 scores.

I’d agree with this assessment, but weather could have an impact. If we get bad weather, it would probably favor UGA, because it could impact our passing game. That being said, we have the better quarterback, and I’d have a hard time picking against Keelon

The yards came because the score was out of hand. They wouldn't have come had the game been tighter.

This offense from the OL to the QB is levels upon levels better than last year.
Spot on.

No one is “pretending that Ty sucked last year”. He was elite, “NFL like”, in the short and intermediate game. He had good rapport with his teammates, was a good leader. Alabama fans should always be grateful for what Ty brought to the program. But he could not throw the long ball accurately. It was a limiting factor on the offense last year, which was exacerbated by the fact that Alabama could not run the ball. In fact, no long ball contributed some to the poor run game. Keelon has a very good long ball. DeBoer and Grubb performed almost at a genius level to squeeze 11 wins and the playoffs from a team that could not run or throw deep. Also, Ty was amazing in what he did well.
While Ty was elusive in the pocket and a good athlete overall, Keelon is a far better athlete and much faster than Ty. Keelon has great poise and ultimate trust from his teammates. They believe deeply in him to always make the needed play - probably more than any QB Alabama has ever had.
There is not really anything at the QB position that KR cannot do well or at an elite level. Also, his progress this year has been breathtaking even discernible by average people like most of us.

That was the 56 yard initial run and Sellers doing things Stockton nor few others are capable of doing.

3rd Downs. That's the key to this game in my opinion. UGa will have plenty of 3rd and mediums. Can Bama's D get off the field? Or does UGa have long drives where they just grind it out. If UGa is 50% or better on 3rd down, then it could be a long night for the good guys. Less than 50% is very promising. Just my guess.

One thing Bama is doing a much better job this year is keeping their foot on the gas. The last two regular season matchups had Bama getting a lead and holding on. That was the case for a lot of games. This year we are getting leads and then adding to them.
If I had the time I'd look at how many times Bama got up by 14 or more in the first two KDB seasons and how close the final was vs this year. It seems this year once we get up 14 we add do the lead.

I really like Bama’s run Defense vs a Mike Bobo-led Offense that is 100% reliant on running the ball, and only throwing when they want to.
Bama held Georgia to their lowest ypc of the season last year in the SECCG, and held on in Athens 24-21, despite the offense getting shut out the 2nd half.
Side note:
Look for D Lee to make a big play in this game.

Kirby never figured out Bryce Young , and Keelon Russell is a souped-up version of Bryce. I like Bama's ability to do more damage to Georgia's psyche especially if our top two receivers don't end up with broken wheels!
