To be honest the majority of the kids in the portal that have committed already we have no clue how many of them actually signed anything yet.

If you did sign couldn’t you just re-enter the portal

Smothers felt like a luxury take. I’m not sure why people are melting over him

Because getting a kid to "commit" without also getting him to sign anything in the current environment is difficult to defend. A public commitment without the accompanying signature is just leverage and anyone with two brain cells to rub together could have predicted he'd pull some shite like this.

You’re overestimating both our leverage and the broader leverage across all schools. He’s not even the third or fourth guy this cycle to flip in the portal period.

It’s like complaining about someone flipping the day of signing day, and not at a position of need at that.

Agree, if we can spend the money on elite O Linemen, I think Crowell, Dear and Hill are fine. The problem is I have zero confidence in this staff to build the line so it would’ve been nice to have an elite back who can break tackles.

Like the GM of an NFL team. I doubt he does anything on the field as far as coaching goes but probably observes all practices encouraging and slapping fannies.

The kids arent progressing because of bad coaching and bad systems. Like i said they are arrogant.

If 2025 is any indication, provide the coaching staff with poorly provisioned rosters that can’t execute their scheme.

Disagree. Aside from the fact Smothers has some actual wiggle and can juke guys, he (IMO) gets MASSIVE points for his ability to pass protect.

Currently, none of our guys on the roster have any ability to juke anyone and they all collectively are HORRIBLE pass protectors.

In that sense, Smothers would be a massive upgrade and maybe starting a fire under the other RBs asses that consistently whifffing in pass protection ain’t gonna get it.

Smothers is already enrolled in classes at Alabama, but he hasn't signed?

You might need to lay off the sauce for a bit. Rage posting at midnight over a kid who hasnt played a snap at Alabama is wild.

Courtney Morgan just signed back to back top 5 classes and yall are losing your mind. Alabama will never be a top 20 transfer portal school because we arent going to throw crazy money at guys because it isnt sustainable without a billionaire donor like Cuban, Graves or Phil Knight.

My question to every single person bitching- How much money you donating a month? Because prestige, facilities, or exposure don't mean jack shite to any of these kids anymore so the money better be right or they will go somewhere else.

We are getting announcements of freshmen re-signing with the team. I think it’s clear that it’s free agency every year and that high school recruiting is less important than the portal since the players aren’t ready yet.

You think Alabama has the same money at Indiana? Oregon? LSU? Michigan? Texas Tech? Texas? Everyone of those schools have billionaires on record stating that they are donating a shite ton of money every year. You're out of your mind if you think Alabama can compete at a high level without recruiting very well at the HS ranks because we will never be able to outspend those schools.

You saw this year that the plan is to let the HS school guys walk that arent up to the standard, but they are going to spend internally on guys that they believe can play at this level. HS recruits have a 1 year contract to see if they can compete at this level, and if they cant they are told to walk. That us the only way Alabama can compete at a high level in this NIL landscape.

It's hard for me to get on board with theses announcements that our players have "resigned"...like that's where we are in college football. Can't just say, hey Coach, I'm staying and be done with it. We have announcements of going in portal, who is visiting in portal, who commits from it, and who is actually staying. Sooooooo stupid what this magnificent sport has become.

Highschool recruits come in get paid something and mostly sit on the bench. In a year or two when they are ready for the big time they will hit the portal and leave. So they were paid and developed by one team and end up benefiting a different school for 1-2 years before leaving college.

How many freshman that saw playing time at Alabama this year entered the portal? Zero as of now and multiple of them have already resigned with Alabama. That is the ONLY way Alabama can compete in this era. Find good HS recruits that can play early and then resign them. Alabama is not going to spend the type of money to get a ton of transfers in because they dont have it. Alabama doesnt have $1.7MM to waste on freaking Wilkin Formby. If he got $1.7MM then Peak got at least $3-4MM and maybe even more.
