You don't have a QB competition against the likes of USC. Only one QB will play in that game unless they are turning the ball over like crazy or it's a blowout.

You get that win and you have your QB tryout the next week against Western Kentucky.

I actually would rather see Bateman take command of the offense, fix his deep ball and increase his pocket awareness. Then we could see Hurts take a redshirt and run the scout team all year. Either way you guys will see Tua as the hotshot freshman next year. Last year Barnett was the saviour.

Bateman holds a clip board

Barnett starts

Hurts plays a good bit if the package thing works or RS

Cornwell transfers to OU

Tua redshirts

AJ and Phillip Sims had one on the road in Happy Valley before Paterno got canned.

I expect 2 QBs to play in the game. 3 playing would give me heart failure

Actually, AJ and Sims had their QB competition against Kent St in the 11 season opener. I don't think Sims played a snap the next week against Penn St.

CrimsonBoz,

Which way is Saban/Kiffin leaning in the QB race. You're close to the situation, and have To have heard something.

We know that you know that he knows that you know that he knows you know ....

I think that's the biggest dilemma (it's usc).
If it was a team on the level of whisky again.
I think it would be easy to pull the trigger on a dual game of B8 or J2..

But this is a huge game for USC to make a statement for there program. being back and in good hands under there second year HC.

But also what a great chance this is for Bama to show a whole other element to what already has been a powerful offense over the last 3 years or more.
With a legit dual threat pass/option read QB..
that will show same play-action pocket delivery combined with a threat on the edges...

note-the effect a J2 would have on barnett and QB depth next year..would be a catch 22..

But bama recruiting ability may make that not a problem if Tua kids and najee sticks..

Will probably be a lot like 14. Sims started and played almost the whole game against West Virginia. Against FAU the next week, Sims and Coker split the snaps.

I expect Bateman to start against USC and Bama looking to run the ball most of the game against a rebuilt USC front seven.

Then against Western Kentucky Barnett will play quite a bit.

I expect Hurts to redshirt. Some of the best QB in the last 10 years redshirted their true freshman season, Winston, Manziel even Tebow didn't start his freshman year.

Winston and Manziel both had 1st rounders in their final season ahead of them though. Leak was a two or three year starter.

While I think he'll transfer, don't think it'll be to OU. Kyler Murray transferred there and I think he'll fit their offense much better when Mayfield leaves...

I'd be a little worried About the team, because I just don't see how that horrible QB I saw play last year

So you watch a kid play in mop up duty the majority of his reps completing over 70% of his passes and you can truly make the judgement that he is terrible. And before you say Ole Miss here is a kid that knew he was the backup and yet got thrown in as a starter against the best defense we had played in a few years and still went 11-14(yes with an interception). I would wager not one of the other two QBs battling for the spot could do any better in that same situation last year against that Ole Miss D.

Some of you amaze me.

It was the manner of the interception that worries me. He just heaved it as hard as he could and it was a lollipop that fell apart mid air and was easily intercepted. Wasn't even close to his intended receiver

His completion percentage isn't impressive if it's a pass beyond 15 yards.

Bateman only fits the Kiffen offense when throwing screen passes. He can't hit the home run. I honestly think Kirby is chomping at the bit for a true dual-threat guy but saban may not go with Hurts.

Any different then the interception Coker threw late in that game. He still brought home the NC. Just saying. And for the record I have never should support for Bateman just find it funny with some of the posters claiming off a few appearances in limited play that two QBs with no experience can do so much better in a real game neither have ever played in at the college level.

If Bateman was doing so great vs Ole Piss then why did Saban bench him again?

It's no different than you making assumptions that they can't do better. It goes both ways

Based on the way Kiffen was talking to Stewart after that play I think it's quite possible that Stewart ran the wrong route on the play
