I'll support whoever Saban trots out there but I've seen this movie before. I know how it ends. I hope I'm wrong, God. I hope I'm wrong. And I won't be on here saying I told you so. Coach Bryant tried the same thing in his last years, starting the senior who bided his time as the perennial backup because he wasn't the most talented guy. The more talented freshman was on the sidelines as #1 Alabama took a 28 game long winning streak into Starkville and left a 6-3 loser as the senior QB fumbled away the snap on 4th and goal late in the game. They stumbled again later that season and finished 10-2 despite a rock solid defense and talent everywhere except at the trigger. Yes, we've started the senior guy the last two years and yes it has worked. It won't always work every time. And it made sense the last two years. Not much separation between the guys. This year, from what we read, there is. If Bateman is successful, I'll shut up. But I'm afraid we just gave SC a huge boost in this game and a chance to win.

Nobody panic. Bateman will come out, get two sacks and a pick, USC won't score, and we'll put in Barnett and win the damn game.

I really don't understand why everyone's about to die over here bc of the QBs. Saban knows more about them than any of us act like we do. He sees things we don't. All I heard when Sims was the QB was his arm wasn't the strongest and it was a concern. He turned out to be a star. Now people are saying the same thing about Cooper. Saban has a reason for starting Cooper/Barnett over Hurts. He hasn't won 5 national championships for no reason. Just relax.

They thought that they finally had THE inside source. Has never happened, will never happen. But keep believing right?

Any chance the staff is doing this to try and preserve QB depth and keep everyone happy? Cornwell is gone, book it. But by starting Bateman and making Barnett #2 and tell Hurts "your turn is coming, kid," they keep all 3 of them engaged and vying for playing time. If you start Hurts, both the older guys leave. If you make him #2, Barnett leaves. This way you keep all three, at least until next year depending on how things play out the rest of the year.

Good idea. By then we are all "insiders" with more than gut and speculation.

Man people love it when inside info comes and it pans out. But one thing which btw hasn't even happened yet goes wrong and watch them all turn. Seriously screw off.

All this talk about QB. We had better hope our core at DL can stay healthy. Talent drop off is pretty significant. And next year is a scary drop off.

Seriously. I got a feeling there's going to be a handful of grad transfers rolling in. If/When one of those top 4 goes down, someone thats never played has to step up.

We won a national championship with Greg McElroy at QB throwing to arguably the best WR in the NFL (Julio). What would you rather have, a national title or a two WRs getting over a thousand yards receiving? If it's the latter you can go be a L5U fan.

Chill the frick out. ?
Don't worry dude Im calm its not like we have a problem working with the quarterbacks strengths, so Im not worried. Personally, I believe we have a solid corp of WRs that can do everything you would expect out of any elite receiver in CFB and it would be a shame if we couldn't utilize their full potential just because we have a quarterback who couldn't help them do it. Now at the end of the day I'm behind Saban and the staff all day, but I think the only quarterback who can honestly do that is Hurts. I would include Barnett but from reports from the scrimmages he hasn't been playing well so far. Either way if the staff trusts Bateman or whoever starts to win games for them, I'm all for it. Hopefully everyone else on here gets in a peaceful mindset before the game , and we can root on our team together.

It's a shame that Saban doesn't know what he's doing, because otherwise he would be a decent coach for us.

Hope so man. Our depth next year at DL is as thin as I've seen in years.

But think how good he'd be if he paid attention to this board.
