Most of the teams we play are spread heavy, but I don’t like getting beat upfront when we play a team like Michigan, Georgia.

I had a meeting (recruiting) with Coach Donahue in 67.

It didn't last long.

True. The SEC has become the Big 12 from the offense standpoint. Only a couple of smash mouth capable teams left and they still win most of the SEC championship games.

That’s the second Head Coach brought onto the staff. Nice.

Maurice Linguist Bio

quote:

Linguist is regarded as one of the nation's top recruiters and has excelled in coaching at both the Power Five level and the NFL. He came to UB from Michigan where he served a brief stint as defensive backs coach/co-defensive coordinator since January. He joined the U-M coaching staff after spending the 2020 season as cornerbacks coach with the NFL's Dallas Cowboys.

In Dallas, Linguist directed a secondary that forced 10 interceptions while allowing the fifth-fewest passing first downs in the league (180). The Cowboys were also ranked in the top half of the league in pass yards allowed (11th), completion percentage against (10th), and takeaways (ninth). Linguist coached rookie cornerback Trevon Diggs (three interceptions) to a strong first season in the league. Three of Dallas' four leading tacklers in 2020 were starters in the secondary, including former Wolverine Jourdan Lewis who set a career-high with 59 stops.

Linguist has worked with college secondaries at nine programs. Prior to heading to the NFL, he coached cornerbacks at Texas A&M (2018-19), defensive backs at Minnesota (2017), safeties at Mississippi State (2016) and defensive backs at Iowa State (2014-15)

Having experienced recruiters and assistants who are aware of the flow of an entire game is a net positive.

These are not small victories.

2024 may well be rough in comparison to the established norm. But, it feels positive beyond that.

I'm really excited about what the future holds. It will be different, but change is inevitable. You have to roll with it.

The hungrier the better; I like it.

DeBoer picking up some momentum, and it sounds like the team (from the Booker interview I posted on the board) are liking his energy, and they are all connecting.

Spring ball cant get here fast enough. Hope we have 90K in attendance

Our team leaders seem locked in, which is huge. We will certainly feel some of the lost players next year, but I feel pretty confident that the guys that stay will be locked in and ready as always.

It's also 4A in suburban Raleigh NC, let's just say that there isn't a ton of D1 talent out our way.

I guess it must be a landing area for "white flight" :-)

I like the hire. Has been around a bit but has experience in the NFL and SEC. Seems knows how to coach up a secondary, Diggs had a good first year with him. And he has souther ties

Donahue was my father’s position coach in 1960. Dad still talks about him with fear and anger. Lol

He's not a great DC, he's a good CB coach, and a very good/maybe great recruiter. Wommack is a much better choice as DC and is a very good/maybe great recruiter in the state of Alabama and the Gulf coast. DeBoer is a great coach, TRob is a good CB coach, not close to great, and a mediocre DC.

Linguist looks like a great DB coach. A freaking HC is coming to be our position coach…he coached for Dallas as well.

I think he’s a good pick to keep guys locked in(the guys left).
