I think his job is to win many games across many years.

This board needs an option to block people or hide their posts.

I am a pro-DeBoer guy but I'll call a spade a spade too. If the short-term goal was to retain the current roster then losing Caleb Downs would be letting someone rob the crown jewels.

Compare Bond’s numbers to the UW numbers… we will be okay. His job isn’t recruiting… his job is winning and recruiting comes with that

Chances are good that they guys were leaving regardless to the HC hire. JMO but the ONLY reason Nick is around was to try and assist with the roster. He can turn out the lights and leave.

I’m glad we have some players coming out talking about being committed to staying at BAMA. Reading the tea leaves, I feel that Downs was waiting to see if TRob was coming back as DC. His announcement tomorrow will be about what school he is leaving to attend. If Downs intended to stay, he would have at least waited to see who the defensive staff will be. Unfortunately, I see him definitely leaving. He played well for us last year, and I wish him well is he wants to be elsewhere. Sure wish he had stayed, and maybe something will happen in the 11th hour to change his mind.

I don’t think he’s gone yet but at this point I would be a little surprised if Downs sticks around.

You might want to wait until something actually happens before calling a”a spade a spade”

I like that coaching staff but I still wish we could fit Bala in there somewhere.

DL-Roach
OLB-Kane (DC)
MLB- Durkin or Bala
CB-Scott
S-Clinton-Dix

If we can pull Karl Scott then I'll be good because he will be the ACE RECRUITER on the defensive side of the ball.

So much negativity on this board from many of you… if you wanna whine about Downs leaving, maybe wait until he makes a decision…

I wouldn’t be surprised either but seems like he’s giving Bama every opportunity. Dude could’ve entered the portal and be anywhere he wanted to by now

I'd rather have Caleb Downs than his backups committed to staying at Bama. We're talking about one of the most sure thing future All-Pros on the roster if not in the entire conference the next two years. We're not losing a junior who will be gone after 2024. This is a guy who would be the foundation for the first two years of DeBoer's program. If keeping TRob loomed large in retaining Downs then DeBoer not giving TRob an offer until Sunday night - after Smart already took the initiative and offered him a Co-DC title at UGA - was a huge screw up.

I feel like he stays… leadership from Moore and Lawson will help plus NIL plus he’s a freshman. He was a true freshman Saban took a chance on and he’s a Saban guy who will be around. It makes more sense to transfer after next year if he really wants to

I think he could really make our safeties ball hawks because we haven't really had one lately.
