Offensive philosophy for new OC

Just give me a hellacious ground game, passes to the RB, and a vertical pass attack (TE and WR). Most of all I want a legit run game. The rest works well if you can run.

Seeing as Sark forgot we had a 1,000 yard back standing on the sidelines back in 2016 I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Maybe it was residual alcohol effects. Maybe his head is clear now.

I'm hoping our new oc can use the tools we have, change his play calls according to what the def is letting us have, and have a back up game plan when plan A,B, and/or C isn't working.

Not only did we not run the ball but we stayed in hurry up instead of killing time during that game when our defense needed the rest.
And Saban approved of this strategy. That 3rd/4th qtr is as much on him as Sark.

The offense will still be the same. We will see few twists.

Every touchdown they had was from long distance on a busted play. They didn't put together a single drive without Scarborough doing his Derrick Henry impression. The defense gave his offense the ball thrice in opponent's territory and he managed three points off of that. His fruitless, tone deaf up-tempo was the single biggest reason a historically great defense was too exhausted to stop Clemson on the last drive. The man cost Alabama a national title, and I'll be stunned if they're able to win one with his dumbass.

Considering almost every QB he has coached is a pocket passing statue, I don't expect much RPO stuff.

Saban's offensive coordinators generally are forced to meld their preferences with Saban's. So if Saban wants RPO, then we will have someone on the staff that knows it and it will be part of the package.

He had the #6 offense in the NFL...

You haven't been paying attention then plus you haven't listened to our head coach very well.

If Sark wouldn’t have abandoned the run in the 3rd quarter, Bama would have won by 2 scores.

Prior to his 1 year at Bama, you could say the same thing about Dan Enos yet everyone freaked at him leaving us for Miami...his offense at Arky as OC and the offense at Mich State as QB coach were all pro style with pocket passers...
Sark coached two Heisman winners at QB and four first round QBs...as long as he stays sober, and I heard no rumors of him hitting the bottle while he was at Bama or Atlanta, he should do well here...

You see what the Rams did on offense last night? That's what we need to be doing.

Irrelevant if the QB won't throw it to them.

He wasn't the only coach on the sidelines that night.
Saban bears some of the blame as well. Just as he does for this year's loss.
As much as an efficient offensive scheme should be designed around exploiting matchups while taking what the defense gives you, someone has to account for one's own defense against another's offense.
If their offense is unable to move the ball easily against your defense, it creates opportunity to try more explosive plays over and over again out of ability vs. Necessity, or to pass more when control of the clock is not necessary. However, if the opposite is true, your offensive scheme should account for that as well. So, it becomes a true team effort by synchronizing your offensive and defensive gameplans against both opposing matchups, so that you are dictating the tempo of the game.
I don't think we've had a true game plan coach like that that who also had the in-game feel to be adaptive when necessary outside of Coach Kiffin. The OU game felt that way, but may have just been coincidence.
To me, the "philosophy" is unbound given the talent on hand, so it should simplify to follow certain principles in prep, execution, and adjustments:
1. Simplicity: ease in formations and adjustments to create a natural flow for the game, increase awareness for all, and simply let the best talent execute
2. Adaptability: do not be wed to the plan; adjust proactively to stay ahead without completely abandoning what is working. Play your opponent and not the moment, so as to gameplan individually for matchups without overthinking it or getting a bit too cute.
3. Physicality and execution: bigger, stronger, faster and meaner than everyone you line up against; strive for perfection in each drill in practice and play in a game... enforced and rewarded just as relentlessly by coaches
4. Synergy: everyone has to play in unison to max potential of the unit, and each side of the ball has to play in a style that best complements the other side of the ball.
5. Resiliency: build and retain a mindset that leaves the last play or game behind and allows one to move to the next as an individual and a team in a positive manner. Use the bad to motivate performance not as something negative to dwell upon. Coaches assist by keeping the players/team on an even keel to limit both emotional highs and lows.
These are simple, but enduring principles.

Yeah! There you go. Straighten out that incompetent idiot if a coach of ours. How has that guy lucked into 6 natys?

We've won 5 natties with 4 different OCs...we won one with Nuss who most hated and we won with Daboll who was pretty much hated as well...don't see why you'd be stunned if we won one with a guy who's had a good track record with college QBs...
I've always thought we lost the second Clemson playoff game by switching OCs a week before the game...always wondered what might have happened if Kiffin had called that game...

it isn't reasonable to blame all that on the OC, let alone one that had just taken the OC responsibilities.
It's a pretty good bet he didn't advice the quarterback to roll to the right and chunk the ball to the sidelines so many times. With an average night for a qb, we'd have won that game.
