Well, I'm AA so nobody can call me that label but my issue with O was he was a social progressive version of Dubya. He helped destabilize Libya and got us involved in situations we had no business sticking our noses (Syria, Ukraine). I appreciate his handling of Cuba, but that's it as far as nation foreign policy.

quote:

As far as economic, he was status quo (federal reserve, bailing out big banks, an infatuation with regulation)

I think you are for the most part correct there, which is why he was ultimately a centrist and why I take umbridge at his "socialist-dictator" reuptation from so many.

Pretty far into realism (a right-based, and the dominant-for-good-reason, international relations philosophy).

Centrist economic policies.

Left on social issues.

quote:

His healthcare policy was the wrong solution and national debt doubled under his watch.

I think that it is extremely complicated, but I overall agree with it being the wrong choice. I am also glad for some of it (pre-existing conditions, expanded years of parent's insurance), not that I actually benifitted from any of that.

It was a shitty comprimise that was meant to be improved over further presidencies, but that's such a longshot in the political world of today and the last people that I would like to see gain power are the fricking insurance corporations.

I think criticisms are fair and I have many. It's just that all the ignorant bullshite that was slung against him just made it difficult to talk about legitimate problems with his presidency.

After what the Dems pulled during the Kavanaugh hearings, you wonder why people consider them loons?

Both sides think the other one is full of loons. Both sides are very popular.

In my book, no decent human being calls themself “democrat” anymore.

I think that's very unfortunate. Our goal as a society should be finding the best mixture of the two perspectives and appreciating the value that each brings to the table. I hate a lot of the shite going on right now by the ruling party, but I still think that republican perspective deserves a seat at the table and has legitmate value to us. Even if I think that the party has just as much stupidity and hysteria as you believe is found on the other side.

Edit: Also, you realize that Nick Saban is a democrat, right?

Of course he does. Look who he married.

But still. Every black conservative I know has pretty much been vilified or marginalized.

You saw what they did Clarence. Just sayin...

Clarence Thomas is considered by many to be one of the most brilliant jurists ever to sit on the court. And they left him out of the Smithsonian African American museum.

Hell, they probably gave Maxine an entire wing.

Just be careful.

Why don’t you post his registration. It’s public record isn’t it?

I doubt Saban spends much time thinking through public policy. I doubt he’s into it at all.

He ran an ad for his buddy Manchin. Childhood buddy.

Raised in a mining (union) town in West Vriginia. Catholic upbringing while being a teen during the Kennedy years. College Educated. Atteneded Kent State during the massacre and has since says that that experience largely shaped his view of and support for protest culture. Spends his life in youth development, helping kids, that largely come from places of less opportunity, get a college education. Publicly supports a democratic senator (a person who as you say, is void of human decency) who is a lifelong friend. He pretty much checks all the boxes in terms of voting D.

What senator was this? Plus, West Virginia is/was the last holdout for the blue dog dems.

Didn’t Hillary and Obama promise to kill coal? And arn’t Catholics vehemently opposed to abortion?

Hardly checks all the boxes.

I did a check. The only political donation by saban on record is Manchin. That’s his friend,

I would but I’m afraid they would be scratching at my door the way those leftist loons were scratching on the Supreme Court doors the other day. Scratching and howling like wounded animals.

Scary stuff.

If Saban ran as a democrat in Alabama, he'd still win right? (Obviously would as a Republican so don't need to ask)

I just want to know if he'd win. I don't care to speculate if he is/isn't a member of a specific party

The dumbest thing Saban could do us get involved in politics. People overlook the Manchin thing because a) it’s personal and b) Manchin is probably the last Democrat who hasn’t gone totally loco.

But don’t think there aren’t a lot of bad feelings. I hope Saban stays silent on politics. I love Saban. But if he went left wing, it would immediately kill a lot of those feelings.

Saban didn't mention Manchin's political views, which was on purpose, I'm sure. He just endorsed his character.

Hillary did, not Obama, but that doesn't change that the odds that he gree up in a liberal household are absurdly high.

Yeah, but they aren't typically one issue voters and last election was an exception in terms of their support (which was narrow and due to Pence).

So he is friends with someone who is void of human decency? What does that say about him?

Saban is almost certainly a liberal. It’s not worth crying over.

We’re all humans and have our struggles in life. Dismissing half the population as looney because they think differently from you is a little backwards.

Try not to get all of your news from Facebook and Fox. Talk to a minority about their struggles. Learn someone else’s perspective.

I’m not going to read any more of this thread but you have said some truly crazy things in the last three posts

Not trying to nitpick, but I have yet to hear this uttered in any legal circle and I’m saying this as a black moderate, who was a member of the federalists society during law school. Where did you hear this from?

That qoute does not say "I want to kill coal", it says "I don't want new coal power plants opening up".
