O’Brien is just as much a problem as Golding

1st and goal from inside the five and you pass it three times? When BRob is running like he was? And it isn’t just that. The play calling seems so predictable. How many times last night do we see first down run, second down pass, third down pass? No imagination or creativity whatsoever. Hopefully BOTH coordinators find somewhere else to go this offseason

I’m old and usually don’t get too upset. But in that instance, I spoke words loudly that I’m glad my grandkids didn’t hear. BRob gashing them and they throw 3 times inside the 4. I blame Obrian for not just straight power runs. But I also think B. Young rpo all 3 plays. That’s on him, especially in the worst decision making game he’s had. Still, he should not have had that option.

BoB is simply not good. He's basically nussmeier all over again.

Absolutely no imagination in play calling. Not that it takes much to at least run the jumbo package near the goal line. Further Bryce wouldn't have had the interception because we'd have run it there as well. 3rd and 1. This ain't the nfl bob.

Here's the thing: Nick Saban has his own leadership style that has served him well and has made him the GOAT, without a doubt.
But it's a real paradox...he famously gives Lane Kiffin an "arse-chewing" for a play selection in garbage time of a game that was practically over. The arse-chewing was caught on national television and was the subject of media discussion for a whole week, if not longer.
Where was the arse chewing of O'Brien after that abortion of a play where Young threw the interception? Or the three incomplete passes in a row from the 4-yard line?
Will there be arse chewings in private or in staff meetings? Who knows? Saban did seem to put most of the blame on the coaches in his postgame press conference.
But it seems to me that if you're gonna tear Lane Kiffin a new one over that incident...which was pretty insignificant in the big picture...and you do it on the sideline in plain view of TV cameras, why do you seem to let O'Brien off unscathed?
Is it because, after 6+ years as an NFL head coach and a few months as an NFL GM, we need him to stick with this job more than he needs the job? Surely he has a few million in the bank.

Completely agree that he deserved one, but he may have gotten it on the headset. I think the difference is that Lane was on the sideline so it was more evident that it was happening.

Bob isn't on the sidelines as far as I know.

Not that I disagree but isn't Obrien in the box and not on the sideline?
Posted on 10/10/21 at 1:38 pm to BamaGradinTn
I am sure he will let BOB have it at some point and may already have. With him in the booth you can’t see it

BOB has been in talks with USC. He won't be staying. I just hope it isn't another Kiffin situation - and before you call me stupid, I already know that

Bob to usc...how much do I need to put in to make it happen?
Posted on 10/10/21 at 1:45 pm to Bear88
The worst part of that pattern of 1st down run, 2nd and 3rd down pass was that BRob usually got 7-8 yards on 1st so it was usually 2nd and short. Then we would piss it away with 2 bad plays on 2nd and 3rd.

I’m just your average fan, but I’ve haven’t been a fan of having the OC/QB coach up in the booth. Especially when we have a first year starter at QB.

True. Forgot about that detail. Maybe he was tearing into him on the headset.

Kiffin and Sark had huge success on the sideline. Again, it's that NFL mentality.

I speak of few certainties in life, but Saban no doubt tightened BoB's playcalling leash in situational decisions going forward after that.

Eh. 500+ yards 31 points on a good defense in a hostile environment despite 5 or 6 massive drops. And for all the complaining about playcalling, 9 of 19 on 3rd down is respectable (and would have been much better without the drops)

The offensive struggles seemed to be more to do with the players’ mentality.
The defense is just leaving me speechless. A&M is not good on that side of the ball, and yet we made them look like champions.

This is BOB's first year and so he gets a pass. Another thing, we don't see what goes on in practice. Those plays probably work 99% of the time in practice against our shite defense.
