Not Avery. Solid kenpom metrics. Not Avery.

His wife has battled lymphoma. Hope she is ok now.

Dear lord some of these expectations are hilarious.
No clue about the guy. Glad we got someone quick to shore up this transfer BS and try to salvage this program. If he somehow lands Watford then I’m giving him an “A” regardless of season results

Realistically he was about as good as we could have hoped to get... hope he brings us back to at least the level of Wimp's tenure... Solid A from where I am sitting

I'm going with B+. Got him cheaper than Avery. Only reason not A is because it's mid major coach. Hopefully he'll continue his success in the bigger pond.

Also, another positive is that Oats has 3 kids, and they're all girls. So we don't have to worry about finding minutes for his son. It's great to get rid of nepotism.

B+, only because of inexperience at a bigger program. This was his offense at Buffalo last year:
-Fifth best scoring offense statistically in the NCAA
-17th best in Assist-Turnover ratio (Alabama was 275th)
-15th in assist per game
-22nd in offensive rebounds per game
-31st in 3-point FGs per game
-71st in FG%
How can you not get excited just based on the offensive abortions we've seen the last decade?

Very disappointed in the hire! Bama has the money and name to hire someone a lot better than that and definitely one that’s already proven to be a winner! A lot of folks scratching their heads over this move and I’m definitely one of them! SEC is not a mid major conference and no recruit will be knocking the door down to play for him!

I'll say B+ with potential for A+
The only reason for me it is not any higher is because of his lack of P5 experience.
I'll say this though, reading his quotes he seems like the type to have a big chip on his shoulder and he's going to work his arse off
If he's successful, he could be our version of Don Haskins

Similar to player recruiting, it really isn't fair or easy to rate a hire before anything is even done.
Outside of the "names" like Donovan or Stevens, it's hard to just give an A. And even with those two, perhaps it wouldn't work in Tuscaloosa.
Oats' success, as it would be for anyone, is totally on the ability of him being able to get enough talent in here and develop those players into being the best they can be.
So, how can you rank a hire now?

I mean, you are ranking it based off the criteria used to make the hire.

This is a stretch, and I realize that ... but he reminds me in a way of Brad Stevens.
I was excited about the possibility (and apparent certainty, early today) of hiring Matta, but I have hopes that Oats will do great things at Alabama. If nothing else, he seems to get the most out of his players.

Yeah I said it lol I'm hopeful, his attitude just strikes me
I think, if he's successful, he could be here a long time and build the Alabama program up
