I truly cant recall the last season where the top 2 RB's were so boring, and seemingly never took over a game or even made a huge impact. I know it would have to go way back because the last pre Saban RB was Glen Coffee, and he was a great RB. Coffee could take over a game, and did a few times.

Anyone ?

Also, for the people familiar with Rees at ND did he ever have a legit RB that produced anything significant on the field, or is this possibly another issue with the OC ?

Sabans 1st year after Terry Grant got banged up was pretty bad.

Coffee wasn’t the Coffee he was in 08 that season.

Kyren Williams?

I thought that Jase had a fine year, and Williams played well at times, but as I have been preaching all year long, Miller, and Haynes are better than those two, and are much closer to what we have been accustomed to. I was sure that we'd see much more of them this season than we did, but I can't wait to watch them ball out next year.

Roydell is coming back next year. So…

Will eat into playing time of one of the other backs unfortunately.

A back that can pick up the blitz would be appreciated. Jase was the only one that could consistently do that this season. Richard Young looks to be the biggest of the backs, maybe that will give him an edge.

He was 1 of only 5 RBs ND signed the 4 years leading up to him becoming the OC. The other 4 were all 3 stars.

I definitely agree with this. I don’t remember any long run from this year, and it was even rare for us to pick up 10 yarders (except with Haynes against UM)

2007 Alabama with Terry Grant and Glen Coffee. Compare the stats from those two and the two leading rushers we had this season and they're almost identical. However, not since Najee Harris do I think we've had a running back in the backfield who could take control of a football game.

I would take Glen Coffee over the guys we trotted out there this year so keep on moving backward into even darker times.

Coffee was a helluva RB and one of the most underrated players of the Saban era. He'd have had a career in the NFL if he had wanted that for his life.

Yeah, its unreal he turned all that money down to start his own ministry, but impressive he followed his heart instead of dollars.

I wonder how hes doing now ?

He was a great back- really physical- he crushed auburn his last iron bowl i seem to recall.

Not really answering your question but the reason they were so pedestrian is because the best tandem never saw the field that much this year!!

I thought 22 was a high light of the evening. He played really well!

This was considered pedestrian in 2021

Brian Robinson Jr
Trey Sanders (post car accident)
Jace McClellan
Roydell Williams
Camar Wheaton (no snaps due to injury)
+3 walk ons

B-Rob turned in a good year, but was not thought of as a game breaker to begin the season.

Not really a game-breaker but that year B-Rob was one of the most serviceable backs we've had. Glad to see the success he's had in the NFL.

There were no great players on offense this year. Plenty of good, but no great. There was no single player on this team that wanted the game on their shoulders when it came nut cutting time.

That's fine. It's not denigrating good players. But none of them were great.

2007, and before that who knows. Even Ken Darby and Jimmy Johns I would argue were more dynamic than McClennan/Williams. Maybe Galloway/Miree in 2000, but honestly they were arguably better than 2023.

It was an underwhelming backfield..

I feel like 2007 Terry Grant had more long runs than McClellan or Williams. The first Bama running back tandem I can remember was Shaun Alexander and Dennis Riddle, so this was the worst backfield I can remember Alabama having and it's gotten worse every year since 2020.

This is the root problem. There wasn’t a skill position player on this offense that was a 1st round grade player this year. Our best offensive playmaker was the quarterback and that is usually a problem for an offense.

You mean they all had their nuts cut off?
