What I took from this story is Najee doesn’t like Tuscaloosa, the state of Alabama, its people, its food, its culture, Alabama fans or much of anything from his time here. Of course, Casagrande hates Alabama and did his best to drag out the negative. Sounds like Najee is saying he was a mercenary doing a job and just endured it to get to his end goal. Alabama football made him a household name and is about to make him a multimillionaire. There is nowhere in college football that he’d get the exposure, success and fame he got here. I hope as he grows and matures he’ll learn to appreciate it more.

This isn’t a comment on Najee per se, but I’m always a tad skeptical when some of these public acts of charity or service are performed by athletes and celebrities. They might be genuinely indicative of that person’s true nature or they might be just cold, manipulative performances to polish a public figure’s image. We just arrested a former athlete for murder here in my county who would sit at the lunch table with an autistic child. I’ll hold off on proclaiming him the reincarnation of Gandhi or Mother Theresa.
Personally, I’m not that bent about his comments. Some of our fans can be over the top just like any other fan base. I do think some of his statements were just an attempt to win cool points in the media with the same old, “Hey, those backward Southerners sure are hicks!” stuff that we’ve all heard 1000 times. Doesn’t particularly endear him to me, but it doesn’t particularly offend me, either.

I think you've said it better than anyone else. I loved watching Najee and publicly he was a great representative. And I get Tuscaloosa is not for everyone. I live here. I get it. There are parts of it that are absolute shitholes. Like a lot of other places. I'd rather live somewhere else, some day.
Najee wanted to get the hell out of California too (his words, in so many words).
There are those of us who are fans of the University. We would have loved nothing more than to suit up in crimson and run out of that tunnel just one time. And many of these players buy in--they usually come back to be on the sideline, etc. Mark Ingram always comes to mind, a kid from Michigan who is 100% BAMA now.
They're not all going to do that. In his own words, in that interview, Najee said in so many words "he guesses it was the right decision." He was ambivalent.
He's entitled to his opinions, and it doesn't make him a lesser person. I'm also entitled to mine, and I prefer the "Bama guys." The "Alabama Does" guys.
Jalen Hurts tweeting himself smoking a cigar after the Tennessee game AFTER losing his spot and transferring to Oklahoma.
I'm allowed to like those guys better, the guys who appreciate what Alabama brought to the table for them.

I love Najee. Seems like a tremendous guy. But some of his views on Alabama made me cringe. But I get it. I wouldn’t fit in where he’s from either.

From what I have heard the Pittsburgh OL in a division known for tough defenses and cold weather might be a culture shock.

SIAP - I found the "my best friends do not do any sports" and "I didn't want to be a LEADER on the team" and then the drive from Texas to T'loosa for the Proday that he wasn't even performing in???
Not sure those are consistent, and maybe that is just the kid's mindset. I hate their food, I'm coming back for another year?... seems like a real loner; but does not fade from the scene if there is an opp to be on camera...
...Not that there is anything wrong with that,

Another entry in the road to the NFL. Part 4.
Part 4
I've been a little critical of Najee's takes on his time in Tuscaloosa. I think hopefully he'll come to hold it in higher regard, and value it for what it brought to the table.
He's not a bad guy.
