I create new threads quite a bit.
If I have a general thought about a tweak to the basketball rotation or Keon Ellis' past 5 games 3 PT rate, I post it in the basketball thread.
I will admit I don't know anything about the football thread because I rarely read it. So, if this whole thing is about that, then you might be right. I post regular football stats threads all the time outside of that thread, as do others.
And the front page's oldest thread is barely 48 hours old. Almost all of them are from the last 24 hours. What am I missing here?

One thread for a whole football season or basketball season is incredibly dumb and a pain in the arse for people on mobile.
I love the basketball thread and almost only use it on mobile.

Breaking the Fluff story in the Basketball off-season thread was horrible.
Not sure where the Fluff story "broke," but there was a three-page thread on Fluffopotamus' passing and the associated tributes to him. I know, because I started it.

What is the point of a board if everything is discussed in megathreads?
The front page of discussion topics should be lively, and naturally refresh every 2-3 days. This is how a forum should be run.
Similar to tRant.
Why is the Alabama forum tarded up with "megathreads"?
The same discussion topics have been on page 1 for months. This place used to be completely lively, and interesting. Today it's dull and boring.
Last time I counted, we had far more stickied threads than any other team. I believe it was 8 at the time.
It's over moderated.
I just clicked through again. We have more than any of the other team threads. Most of them have 1 to 3.

Ironically, this thread is generating more of a discussion outside of a megathread than this board has seen in a long time.
Probably needs a sticky.

My issue with megathreads is this:
I come to the board and see two new topics posted. One of them is about the tight ends and one of them is about the quarterback situation. I don't have any interest in the quarterback discussion, so I skip that thread and read the thread on the tight ends.
With the megathreads, I have to sift through all of the topics in which I'm not interested and I have to remember what page I was on the last time I stopped reading the thread. It also require me to have a somewhat working knowledge of hundreds of pages of discussion, instead of 5 pages of a smaller topic.
One of the golf forums I tried out for a while was big in the megathreads scene. It makes it hard to keep up if you aren't in it a lot. It also doesn't turn over the discussion as much.
Obviously y'all run the board how you see fit. I'm just providing my thoughts on the subject.

Links to the last-read posts in threads is one of many features common on quality sites that this lame-arse site lacks. It's way past due for some needed feature upgrades. Consider bookmarking the last post you've read in a long thread so you can easily return there later.

I don't understand why megathreads bother some people so much. I can't speak for the football topics, because I haven't participated in those for several years now aside from reading through the last page or two when I know something is going on.
The basketball thread(s) have been very successful imo. For years we've had a smallish group of diehards following and discussing the program. Then it suddenly blossomed into 1500+ pages after we turned out to be pretty good and a lot more people became interested in the team.
I have always viewed the basketball thread as if we were all just sitting around the bar and shooting the shite talking hoops. I've tried to make the new basketball thread a bit more organized on the first page so that it can be used a reference if needed. All of the regulars are good about answering the drive by questions we get as well.
If someone has a specific question or topic they want to discuss, just create a thread and have at it.

This is how I’ve always viewed it. During the bad years, it was a freaking support group and a great place to blow off steam. There are plenty of slots to start a new thread if they want to do that.

How long until this thread qualifies to be a Megathread?
I enjoy the way that the admins (and Surge) run the current Megathreads... If I have been away for a week or so, I click on the last page... if there are any postings that I find of interest I just click on them to back track thru the history of that posting... and poof caught up..
If the format is changed... will still come and read... really not a biggie... tho, I would vote for status quo

I also don't like the megathreads. It works for the recruiting threads, but I feel like news gets lost in the others.
Same - I like recruiting megathread, but I never click in any of the others.
