This. Grubb pulling the annexation of Puerto Rico on first down when we had total control of the game is what opened the door for Auburn to get back in the game. We had total control of the game and he decided to get cute and it backfired.

While I agree the play call was stupid, that one play did not open the door for Auburn to get back in the game, obviously.

The shanked punt on that series was the real issue. But the first down play call on that series put us behind the chains and Auburn starting to blitz Ty more. Those calls drive me nuts because they look amazing when they work and terrible when they don’t. DeBoer and Grubb have riverboat gambler mentalities. Sometimes it works. Sometimes not. But if something is working (we were running the ball well) then stick with it.

Have we hit on a single one of these slow developing trick plays all year?

He doesnt fit Grubbs offense.

One thing grubb isn't going to do is change his philosophy for anyone

Not sure. The South Carolina game was unnecessarily close because Grubb decided to throw a pass 20 yards downfield on a fourth and one play. Sometimes you have to take the easiest route instead of trying something so risky. We failed to convert and then on the very next play, South Carolina throws a bomb for a touchdown.

Gonna blame the hc for that. This is not a one off - we've done that all year, for no reason at the wrong time to no success. Kalen sees the same thing we do.

Did the same last night on a 3/1, iirc. I know the run game sucks, but put in a legit option play with Ty. He's more than athletic enough to make that work. Oh, I forgot. We have that bootleg with the te/fb that we've used 30 times.

Dunnaway is saying that he appeared to be sick. Maybe battling flu or stomach bug or something

It was rumored that several players were sick during the week. Bray Hubbard one of them. It’s very possible that is the explanation.

Our coaches are winning games because our roster is better than 99% of other teams.

We are a Mickey Mouse offense

I think a lot of that is on Grubbs. Yall had something going on last night that was working well. Then Grubbs got cute and on that play your QB took a big hit and just like that AU felt life come back. Had yall not done that and keep on pounding the ball the game would have been over by halftime.

You took that as a troll? That trick play was a turning point in that game. Yall were humming before that mess.

One missed trick play doesn’t make a difference absent a turnover or injury any more than a simple incompletion.

There are functional limitations to this offense due to personnel and injuries, attempting to mitigate them with a trick play to generate an explosive isn’t a negative, it’s a positive even if it doesn’t work because it’s forcing the defense to account for wrinkles rather than just going downhill against a mediocre rushing attack on a night where we could barely cross 100 yards passing on a horrible pass defense.

There were a few 3rd/3-6 yards plays Ty went for a 30 yard pass down field.

Drives me absolutely bonkers.

It was definitely a play that swung momentum.

Hes not very good...he was hyped up too much because he was 17. Hes at best the #4 receiver on the team.
Horton, Bernard and Brooks are better.

He doesn't need to worry about being an H/slot next year because Brooks is the best fit on the team.
