Snippet from TNews editorial
quote:

”Legendary UCLA basketball coach John Wooden famously said that when it comes to motivating players, the bench is a coach's best friend. Alabama coach Nate Oats wasn't even a year old when Wooden retired in 1975, but some 50 years later, he took that lesson to heart in the most profound way imaginable on Saturday night.

It's unclear what exactly Mark Sears did, or didn't do, to earn a second-half benching from Oats in the Crimson Tide's 80-73 home win over LSU. But this much is crystal clear: when you sit one of the nation's elite point guards in a closely contested conference game, you grab the team's full attention. Because if Oats will bench the team's senior leader and best player, he'll bench anyone at any time if he doesn't like what he sees on the floor, or off it.”

So you would rather have another loss like Ole Miss? For whatever reason Mark Sears couldn’t guard for crap in the first half.

No one player is bigger than the team. PERIOD.

Anyone saying so doesn't know shite about Alabama sports or what it means to wear the Crimson.

I don’t give a shite if he’s Michael Jordan, if he’s not playing within the framework of the offense and defense and he’s going rogue, he damn well deserved to sit. That’s what a real coach does, not keep trotting a Milroe out there despite playing hero ball to the detriment of the team. Kudos to Oats for standing his ground and Mark’s a good kid, he’ll get his head screwed on straight. Oats just needed to get his attention.

My first thought is that he’s had some personal traged but if that’s the case they’d have made mention of that.

Kalen DeBoer was at this game tonight and I hope he took notes. This is how a real coach operates.

You never know

May have changed the course of history sometime down the road.

Well sear's mom made a post last night... And several ppl commented that Mark looked off and she said he was not sick and there was nothing wrong with him. He just didn't get a chance to perform. She also said that Mark was hard on himself and all. Sounds like nothing to be concerned ..

they've always seemed like parents that get "it." So, hopefully, this doesn't rattle them. I know i would be harder on my son than Oats would be if he weren't doing what he needed to do.

So your contention is that we should fire the man who is probably the best basketball coach we've ever had, who has shown nothing but commitment to the University, in a season where he is coming off the first Final Four trip in school history and has his team ranked in the top 5 and contending for yet another conference championship and number one seed in the tourney, because he made a personnel decision you did not agree with in a game that we ultimately won? Ok, champ. I seriously hope you never hold any sort of hiring/firing authority in the course of your professional career.

Not the same situation at all.

I disagree it's very similar but this is a basketball thread so I won't railroad the thread with football talk

You can disagree, but sitting Sears for a half for whatever he did and Milroe holding two different coaching staffs hostage are not close to the same situations.

Suspended for a half. Saban suspended players for a quarter or a half several times.

That was a narrative after the fact that no one believed for a second including true insiders when they still shared info.

Kudos to Nate for finally having the balls to sit Mark. Hopefully that sparks the effort on that end of the floor. I stand by it, it was a stupid take
AMEN!
Sears is physically not a quick guard, and if he doesn't give 100%, he can get "embarrassed" out there. Imo, Oats made the perfect move at the perfect time.
I suspect that we'll see a better "team" effort going forward....

Mark took himself out of the first game, he played horribly and he then spent 3 hours after the game, shooting 3’s. He was praised for being a team player. He goes 0 fer in a half and suddenly, he’s selfish and plays hero ball. One year he’s an all American and the next, he was once again, leading the conference in scoring but so many fans have called for his head this year.
One day many are saying he’s one of the best players, we’ve ever had, two days later, he’s horrible.
No one knows what happened last night. He played poorly but the game is over, Bama won, move on.
None of this shite you posted here rhymes!.....hell, you ain't no poet!

Only solution is to fire Oats immediately.

Edit: can someone ban this retard?

Oh no!

But guessing the NIL checks keep getting cashed. There's plenty of people out there that don't like their jobs. But I seldom hear their mommy's feelings on the matter.
