However if that statement was the entire post, I stand by it. IF, with no other variables in play, you bench the BEST player we have because he had a bad 1st half, then yes, you are a moron that deserves to be fired.

He had a shite first half, specifically defensively. Is that not enough to sit him? Is he above the team? That is the message Nate has been giving to his team all year because this isn’t the first time Sears has been shite on that end. Nate has no problem yanking anyone else for that exact reason.

Kudos to Nate for finally having the balls to sit Mark. Hopefully that sparks the effort on that end of the floor. I stand by it, it was a stupid take

If you thinking benching the best player on our team for a bad half, then I need to find a board that knows basketball. I didn’t realize I was posting in the kiddie pool.

Now, I don’t believe Oats did that. Thus why I believe something we don’t know happened.

I think it’s more than playing poorly. I benched a team captain in our county tournament with two minutes to go because of attitude. It turned her whole attitude and our season around. How Sears and the team responds will decide if it was a good decision.
But one thing is for sure, next year players will know what can happen to them if they do not come prepared to play and with a good attitude.

Hence, something we don’t know. Point proven.

He was benched for being totally out of control and being an entitled bitch.

Just stop, man. If you are not a troll, coming in hot with a bad take and then doubling down with a post count under 40 is just a bad play.

Something definitely happened in the locker room at the half per a guy who was in it.

There was a play in the second half around the 5 or 6 minutes mark where Philon made a bad play at the rim, and Oats absolutely lit into Sears while pointing at the floor. I mean screaming in his face while gesturing wildly.

Looks like Oats knows, like so many of us can see, Sears is not the most talented player on this team. He is a valuable piece. But he cant hold the team hostage like he's Jalen Milroe. We can win without him.

Glad Oats could stand strong. This shite will be more and more common in the NIL era.

Not the same situation at all.

To me he looked like he was sick. Glassy eyed and sort of out of it. A guy who got benched for attitude and effort would have been cheering his butt off to make a good impression.

The Flu has been going around.

You know Saban once put a suspended player in the game just to try and salvage a win vs ULM and still lost, right? Is that also how a real coach operates? Idiot.

When I coached high school, I benched the whole starting 5 one time for a half for lack of effort. We were down by 15 at the half and came back and won by 15. Mark will go one of 2 ways. He will come out and play like his pants are on fire, or he will pout his way further down the bench away from the team.

“ I heard he had a family tragedy “
“ I heard he yelled at the coach “
“ I heard he was sick”
Mark took himself out of the first game, he played horribly and he then spent 3 hours after the game, shooting 3’s. He was praised for being a team player. He goes 0 fer in a half and suddenly, he’s selfish and plays hero ball. One year he’s an all American and the next, he was once again, leading the conference in scoring but so many fans have called for his head this year.
One day many are saying he’s one of the best players, we’ve ever had, two days later, he’s horrible.
No one knows what happened last night. He played poorly but the game is over, Bama won, move on.

I totally disagree. To me at least, Oats has proven his chops enough to where I trust that he did what he thought was best for team benching Sears last night. Maybe he was sick, maybe he mouthed off to a coach...doesnt matter Oats is the coach.

Sears is a great player

Suspended for a half.

Saban suspended players for a quarter or a half several times.

I think it's pretty clear oats has been pissed at the defence the last few weeks, especially the second half of games. We kinda play down to the opponent, North Dakota, LSU, Arkansas st, Pear st. He has been saying this in his post game pressers.
Sears is a great player but if the refs allow physical play he sometimes forces his game to much which causes turnovers, which is why we lost the ole miss game way too many turnovers.
I think he probably has been telling Sears to clean it up and he saw the LSU game heading towards a repeat of the ole miss game and decided to send a message to the whole team by sitting your best player the second half.

He said earlier in the year he was going to play the players who played D and hustled the hardest. Tonight he actually did , getting beat by ole miss at home is bad ,but getting beat by LSU at home would knock you a couple lines down the seeding come March.
