The portal should be once, in the late Spring.

Isn't it enough to give kids a once a year opportunity?

I guess the same thing will decimate Washington and Michigan this year.

I can't wait till Kirby jumps to the NFL.

I actually think now is the time for the portal to be open. Coaching changes largely take place in this period of December- February. Signing day is late december, draft declarations are january, so it makes sense that when you have the most natural roster turnover and coahcing changes that the portal is open. I don't think it should be open in the spring at all, and there should never be a situation where it's only open for XYZ players without explicit stipulations.

What happens is what you're seeing now and what you saw at LSU. They're kids, it's going to naturally snowball when a few of them hop in and you have rampant tampering. They're hearing it from every program coast to coast right now because it's the only major program that is "open." That part is complete bullshite. A compromise if it must be kept that way is that a kid can either transfer out of conference or to another program in their home state regardless of conference.

The starting running back at Florida shouldn't be able to just transfer to Georgia. The starting linebacker at Georgia shouldn't be able to just transfer to Alabama. That can of worms should have never been opened

Just for reference, LSU lost 20+ players to the portal when they fired Coach O. Pretty much gutted their defense and we got to see the product of that earlier this year. UW has had around 20 players go in the portal once DeBoer left.

I imagine we'll have several more decide to hop in the portal either now or after spring when they get experience with the new staff. The staff is going to have to hit the portal hard this year to be able to field a top-tier SEC team. It's really exacerbated by the fact that other teams can openly recruit and throw a ton of money at a player once they're in the portal.

I wouldn't call it a death penalty, but it will always be a ground up rebuild especially if you have a talented roster that other teams are interested in.

There is absolutely no reason to give these kids a new 30 day window. So what if they lost their coach? So did the Titans, Patriots, and Falcons.

NFL players don't all suddenly become free agents when they have a coaching change. College players shouldn't, either.

NFL players are under contract.

Until that happens in college, this is what we have.

Saban and other have used the term "guard rails" very deliberately. They realize we aren't going backwards, but that something has to be done to make the rules of this new engagement clear, concise, and level for everyone.

It's playing out exactly how he said it would. This doesn't increase parity in college football, it allows the big schools to just go pick guys they want. Oregon, Texas, A&M, and Georgia have been the most benefitted programs. Not NC State, Purdue, Iowa State, and Utah

It's never dumb to double your salary, especially if you can also cut your work load in half.

Nobody is paying Kirby $20 million to coach in the NFL.

Yeah he’d make roughly the same amount of money to have less control and more ridicule

What the hell do you think a scholarship is?

There are contractual obligations with a scholarship as well.

If for some reason Jalen Milroe gets benched in the Wisconsin game, can he just leave and go to Athens and then show up in BDS in a Georgia uniform a couple of weeks later?

No? Why not?

Because there are contractual obligations that go with signing a scholarship. Those also include other things like earning credits and staying eligible. Being able to earn a gazillion dollars in NIL money doesn't change that. And the NCAA has full power to set the length of those contractual obligations.

There is absolutely no reason for Alabama and Washington players to be able to enter the portal now. That is an entirely NCAA creation, and it needs to stop.

I do agree. If a coaching change is done prior to spring practice the players already have an opportunity to transfer then. Why should Alabama or any other school be subject to three transfer portals in a 4 month window. It’s an entirely asinine way of doing things that makes no sense. Every player tin the portal now could have hit the portal after spring and would still have homes or get their money.
