Damn it. May have only been a depth guy but as we have seen we NEED these guys to stick on the team or we end up perpetually thin.

Because he was the back up long snapper to a guy who has two more years.

Two more Alabama players enter NCAA transfer portal (BamaOnLine)

Two more Alabama players have entered the transfer portal.

Reserve defensive back Kyriq McDonald and long snapper Scott Meyer have entered their names into the NCAA transfer portal, BamaOnLine has learned. AL.com’s Matt Zenitz was first to report.

McDonald filled a role in the Alabama secondary and on special teams this past season after redshirting his first year in Tuscaloosa. He totaled seven tackles and a quarterback pressure through 11 games of action in his redshirt freshman campaign and was named one of the Alabama coaches’ special teams players of the week for his play against Mississippi State and Auburn.

Alabama signed five defensive backs during the early signing period of the 2019 cycle.

A former walk-on, Meyer acted as the Tide’s primary snapper on extra points and field goal attempts, finishing perfect on all chances, in 2017. He was a reserve behind starter Thomas Fletcher this past season and only saw the field in one game -- Week 12 against The Citadel.

Established in October of last year, the NCAA’s transfer portal now allows student-athletes to merely enter their name into an online database and merely wait for collegiate teams to contact them. It is also worth noting that players can withdraw their name from the portal, too.

Can't blame them. Saban doesn't even play the backup defenders when we're up by 40+

It's the one thing that I've always thought Saban is completely wrong on.

Running down on punts is really not playing though in players eyes

I agree with you Tom

Only complaint I have

I know you're being a bit sarcastic, but I agree. I think he waits too late sometimes to put the back up's in. Let the guys get some game experience. I can remember one time he put in the back up QB in the second quarter to allow him to get some experience with the 2 minute offense. That is about the only thing I can remember him doing that was really out there about getting guys some experience.

I think he's better about it on offense. Like Brian Robinson got a lot of carries this year and last for a fourth string. On defense though, we have guys like Jonathan Allen playing in the fourth quarter up by 5 TDs. I guess it's a mentality thing, but I think it can hurt the team.

Maybe because he got beat out by a better guy? That sometimes happens. Also, he got a scholarship this year just before the season started. I doubt a backup long snapper was going to be kept on scholarship for another season.

Not true, otherwise Monty Rice would be at Bama.

Nope. They happened to be on the same HS team, but were both recruited individually based on their own abilities and potential. McDonald's college destination had zero influence on Ray's.
