He is the second coming of Mark Richt. The timing of this was orchestrated. You go and hire Cochran as your special teams coordinator?? I get strength and conditioning, but smart willing to put Cochran in an on-field position suggests this hire is a vindictive, get-at Saban type hire. It was a hire Cochran away from Saban at all costs type deal.

If Saban promoted Scott "Yeah! Cochran to be our Special Teams coach, I'd be asking myself, WTF is Saban thinking?

Chris Low @ClowESPN
In talking today to Nick Saban, he’s quick to credit Scott Cochran for what he meant to @AlabamaFTBL. But Saban also told me Cochran wanted to pursue a new career path as an on-the-field coach, which Saban understands, but Saban wasn’t ready to go that route with him at Bama.

I hope we beat them next year on a blocked punt, returned kick, blocked field goal, etc.

Does Kirby need a Defensive Coordinator? I know where he can get one.

I just don't understand why anybody is super upset about this.

4th qtr program stuff is just about over as spring practice is about to get ready. They waited until after signing day.

Cochran wants to coach on the field, Kirby is fine with it and Saban clearly wasn't.

Why the hell is late February a bad time to lose a S&C coach? All thing considered, it sounds like a great moment to make the change.

And Saban has a list of people he can plug and play in Cochran's place. If we're being honest, this might not be a bad thing. Cochran has been here a long time and did a good job. But the message is stale. Maybe not the message as much as the messenger. It might be good for a fresh face and a different voice delivering that message.

Nick Saban tells ESPN why Scott Cochran chose to leave Alabama (BamaOnLine | segments)
quote:

“Scott did a really good job for us here and was a big part of our success, but he was looking for a new career path,” Saban told ESPN. “He wanted to get on to the field coaching and would like one day, I think, to be a head coach. We didn’t really have anything here to offer him along those lines, and Georgia did. I understand him wanting to take on that path.”

“We’re in a good position to bring in somebody at the top of their profession, and I think we’ll have a lot of people interested,” Saban said. “I’m excited to see who all is out there.”

Oh grow up.

Geez, people change jobs. If you want to get ahead and nothing is available where you are . . . you move on. It happens.

I would normally complain but the fact that CNS said “He was looking for an on the field coaching position, and we didn’t have anything to offer” tells me Coach probably could have kept him. But wasn’t willing to make a risky move to do so. The guys been fantastic, and I wish him well. Very sad to see him go.

I think it's cool that Kirby is giving him a chance to advance. He had probably reached the maximum pay grade for Strength Coaches. He will get a nice raise from his BF Kirby.
Would have been pissed if he had left with Kirby a few years ago. Good luck Cochran.

That comment reeks No Confidence

Chochran has been with us since 2007 but couldn’t get an on the field job? Saban hired fricking Lane Kiffin but couldn’t see his way to promoting Cochran?

I’m gonna laugh my arse of when UGA loses on a special teams play to Pruitt or Mullin

If anything I respect Kirby for this move. Kirby seems to be trying to help his friend make a really tough career move. Cochran is the most famous strength coach in all of football (pro and college) and to try to make the move to a position coach and possibly a head coach is a very big move. And, I have to say it appears to me the odds aren't in Cochran's favor. I'm not at all in fear because Cochran is at UGA now.

Say what you guys want..

When it comes to on the field productivity in a strength/conditioning role...we've been slipping.

Injuries, and being blown off the ball in the past 3+ seasons signals time for change imo..

Good luck to Cochran. Bama made him, ... not the other way around.

It's about the only way unless you run your own business. Cochran was here 13 years, and had pretty much hit the top of the scale unless he made a change. It will be insteresting to see his UGA salary. He may have taken a step back money wise just to get on the field.

But to the OP, yes, Kirby can go frick himself sideways and die in the process. Got damn Wetupka bitch.
