I don’t know if I’d agree with not staying in one place. He spent three years at FAU then six at Ole Miss, after reverting to an OC for three years again.

Saban in comparison did 4 coordinator, 4 MSU, then 5 LSU. So 13 seasons before the NFL versus 12 before LSU for Kiffin.

The difference between young Kiffin and old Kiffin is he actually did have normal tenures. Him leaving for Auburn in 2022 would’ve been old Kiffin hopscotching.

He’s probably at LSU long term barring a fight with the athletic department. That’s how Kelly ended out; he was called in to fire his OC, agreed on the condition he could fire the OL coach he was forced to have on staff, and when told no just said frick it.

Yet Saban encouraged Lane to take the LSU job. So one of two things are true, either Saban was trying to protect Alabama and doesn't "love" LSU like he and his family say they still do, or Saban didn't want Kiffin coming to Alabama and stepping on his success, regardless of if it would have been a good hire for the program or not. I wonder which it was? My guess is the first one, but with Saban, who knows?

The right move, if true. For all the bitching and moaning about KDB, we won an away playoff game last year and I truly think we're a borderline playoff team this year and will be a NC favorite next year unless we have a ton of unforeseen roster attrition.

Totally agree. The program is on a great trajectory. We made the right hire.

I would be totally embarrassed if I was an LSU fan

If there's one thing I've learned since joining this site, it's that LSU fans don't get embarrassed. Ever. They live in their own little bubble over there in Louisiana where they're always right and everyone else must be wrong.

Kalen DeBoer has only been a D1 head coach for 7 seasons and already has more accomplishments than Kiffin.

It hasn't been perfect while he's been at UA. Some of it is his own mistakes and some of it outside of his control (the mass exodus of players that left after Saban retired, etc). And he may eventually have to make some replacements to his staff (Grubb), but I'd rather give him the opportunity to do that. His defensive coordinator is pretty darn good. If Grubb/OL can improve, this team can absolutely compete at the top.

FWIW, it took Saban 10 seasons as a D1 coach to win his first national championship.

And we are better off for it. Kiffin is poison.
