quote:

“(Alabama coach) Saban retired (in 2024) on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon after show started, Kiffin texted me saying he had to speak,” Finebaum shared Thursday when asked about the timeline. “At the time, speculation was on (current Alabama coach Kalen) DeBoer and (current Florida State coach Mike) Norvell. “I called him during the next break and asked, ‘What do you want me to do?’ Afterall, Jimmy Sexton was his agent. He said, ‘Go on air and say I will take job. I turned down Auburn for this.’”

Saban said “nope.”

Saban fired Kiffin a few days before a national title game. Saban firing anyone was basically unheard of. Saban knew Kiffin well and the trouble he was capable of. After all these years Kiffin has not changed much.

The one thing Lane never heard around his Mom and Dad was the word NO.

I’m just glad to see the university (or just Saban himself) ensuring Alabama wouldn’t have to deal with his antics.

I would be totally embarrassed if I was an LSU fan right now, having to deal with his nonstop childishness.

Since it's paywalled... any proof of saban saying this or is it a trust finebaum situation?

It’s just Finebaum saying it. I could believe it’s true because I sincerely do think Kiffin wanted badly to coach here.

But yeah, Finebaum so who knows
