I don't know why people ever thought this. Maybe there's something I just don't know, but Saban is a control freak. He's involved in the offensive game planning as much as he is defensively, I would think. He doesn't call the plays on offense, nor does he on defense, but with his style I can't believe he isn't involved heavily.

Whomever we get as OC, I seriously doubt he's here long-term either...
I think that's pretty typical for any successful program. Guys who can't quite meet the expected standards quickly get moved out (Applewhite & Nuss) and guys that are successful get promoted to the next step, which in the case of a coordinator is HC somewhere. Kirby was the obvious exception in that I think it is pretty clear now that he was holding out for one particular job.

I'm sure GAs and analysts will be poached. FAU couldn't afford to pay any actual assistants. Much less coordinators.

Before i watched his press conference i thought he would do a terrible job, afterwards my mind changed. I think he has learned his lesson being a huge douche as a coach. Meaning i do not think he is going to think he is the best coach around. I think he will be humble at this job. I think he is going to make changes within the state of florida, and make FAU a decent florida team. They will not be the laughing stock in florida. He will compete to be up there with UCF and USF. He will not turn FAU into a Miami or a FSU, but he will be able to turn that program around, and he will eventually be back in the SEC as a very successful coach. He took this job for the sole purpose to change his reputation. He will be respected again in college football. I see sark going down there as a position coach.

All part of the Master's plan. Go to a small school for 5 years and build it to respectability. Come back to the Capstone when Lord Saban retires and take his place on the throne as Emperor of the college football world!!

I'd always assumed that was the case with both Applewhite and Nuss...however, I read the other day where Saban was defending Nuss who was under fire for UF's offensive woes. He said that Nuss did a good job for Bama and hated to see him leave after only 2 years but that the UM job was a great opportunity for him. ( LINK) I guess it could just be coach-speak...

When has Saban EVER publicly trashed an assistant after they've left the program? He just isn't wired that way.

Agreed...but he could've just left it at "he did an outstanding job for us" without adding the part of being disappointed/not wanting him to leave when he left...

Why leave a successful program for a lateral position with a HC on the hotseat?
