I understand the bad OL.. the bad play calling. I know this is his omly 2nd year playing. Last year as a backup to Simpson and this year as a starter. Hes had close to two playing seasons. But also all the practices and clinics and the two Spring games the last two years. He's not just brand new being thrown out to the wolves. Comparing him to other elite or just good SEC qbs. I can't point out anything special that would make him stand out. All the talk of him being a Heisman canadate was way to early. I felt better in close games with even Milroe. Russell still looks like he cant read defenses and schemes. His feet are shaky and just looks scared to throw.. especially to run. His eyes always look wide which is a picky thing but usually is a sign of being nerved out. His accuracy is 50/50 at best it feels like. The bad thing is we only have Mack to replace him. But really when a game is about to be lost or is trending that way and you know your qb only theoretically has a 50/50 shot of making a long sustained drive and scoring... I mean you have to try something that will hopefully create a spark.. make the rest of team motivated. Give Mack a few series.. see if it improves things. It all starts with the QB. This has been one of Deboers many failures on not willing to adapt and over-come. I know I will get a lot of hate for this.. but I don't care.. everyone sees what I see. I do apologize for this being so long.

I was on the keelon milroe train today but I'm cutting him so slack the way he bounced back. 1 thing I noticed in the interview with deboer walking off the field. He said that keelon has to be smarter and not selfish. Im paraphrasing but I was shocked he said that. Did I hear that wrong?

I didnt hear that part.. but I did watch the studio post game interview. Nothing but praise and how good Keelon looked throughout the game.. I know a coach is not gonna trash his qb.. but to only give him praise just makes all the worrying about Keelon that much more real. Keelon may not be able to see and read the defense but his dam head coach can't see and read his whole team

Yes, I never heard him say selfish. Something more along the lines of ”sometimes you have to take what's there and do what's best for the team".

The good news is that just like Ty Simpson and Milroe, he was getting Heisman hype for a solid 2 weeks early in the season

This is true.. Tons of hype !! Now its all excuses.. even from the announcers and analysts. They all say well hes just new and learning. At this level however, the "made for this" excuse will expose itself. Does anyone know what Russell's NIL pay is ?

I am convinced this board is full of fans from other teams trolling this board. Either that or our fans are softer than any DeBoer led Bama team y’all complain about. The OL is a definite improvement. They’re down what was one starter now essentially 3 because you have one out of position and the starter at LG went down and your down to a 3rd string G. This same OL hung with Georgia and rushed for over 150 yards. The QB is in his first year starting and his best WR is out. Y’all are unbearable.

All the posters saying that KR and milroe are similar, have to leave you scratching your head.
They are completely opposite types of players.

The defense took control of the game late and Russell responded well at that point. A&M controlled the majority of the game.

Mack sucks. You're a fricking moron.

You're right !! Mack has never shown that he should have been the starter over Russell. But if we are to believe all the news in the spring and Fall camp.. it was a full on battle for the starting spot. All I know is that Russell has basically sucked as you say. There is absolutely no consistency in his play. And, if you feel just fine and peachy with Keelon leading the way in a game where we are getting beat and Keelon looks like he is lost trying to read the defense and their schemes. His accuracy being off and not knowing when to run is killing us.. Then you my friend are the blind moron. As a matter of fact it is normal for a qb to be benched in order to try and start a spark.. turn the game around. Doesn't mean that Mack is taking Russell's job.. just simply being benched for a few series. Couldn't have gotten any worse.. AGAIN for the MORON inside of you.. It doesn't mean that Mack is taking Russels job !! I dont want that

The coaches are not helping him out. The most calling puts it all on him and with our shaky o line that’s not good. Need to commit to a run game and slants and wheel routes and an intermediate pass game. RPOs aren’t something he can read right now.

How do even know that? We’ve not really seen a lot of work from him in games.

I agree man.. but I think now..we do have some worries with the slants.. rpo's and such. I don't know if its always been there because of our first two games going well. Keelon was on point with everything. But now it's pretty clear he had trouble.. maybe a lot of trouble when it comes to those kinds of throws.. or reading the defense well enough to pull the ball.. run and pitch out.. He just looks unsure and the plays result in inaccurate throws.. interceptions and fumbles. Is there something going on with qb iq or is it just bad luck. What do you think ?

I saw that yesterday when everyone screamed “run the damn ball” when we were playing with a cobbled together offensive line and then they bitched when we were getting 2 yards a carry. We really COULDN’T run effectively until the end of the game when A&M basically gave up.
In hindsight outside the anger and the frustration of the moment, we absolutely looked like s**t and Grubb still needs to go. But that game should go in the history books as one of our more miraculous wins considering all the factors.
Russell’s struggling but his upside is absolutely unlimited. If our fan base doesn’t run him off.

This. He’s especially better when they roll him out it seems. Not every play can be a 30 yard completion and many times there isn’t time for that from the line. He made some good throws yesterday. Grubb needs to tailor things for him that makes it easier on him. And use those tight ends as much as possible.

You'd have had no idea we were playing with our backup center and 3rd string LG with the way Grubb was calling plays. The fact that Russell had enough time to even hit a few big plays was a minor miracle. He's just so bad at adjusting playcalling to compensate for the situation on the field. Every drive we'd start with a few quick hitters we'd move the ball, then he'd start hunting big plays and it falls apart.
