Nah our defense was soft as baby shite. Our guys were not conditioned well and were getting pushed around the field. Can’t remember when I have seen our defense manhandled like that.
The scheme we are running frequently has guys out of position and unable to make plays. Wommack isn’t the answer. We need a good DC and an overhaul of the strength and conditioning program.
Yep, everytime The Filme Guy puts out a video of our defense you can see OVER AND OVER our guys getting physically handled at line of scrimmage. We're simply not very physically strong and that is a direct result of our strength and conditioning program. Add that to the bad scheme Wommack runs and the end result is we constantly get gashed on run plays. This isn't getting fixed in the regular season so our offense is going to have to carry the team. Lord let's hope Ty and company doesn't have an off day against Vandy or that game could get ugly. But changes have to be made on the S&G program and the defensive philosophy once the season is over. It's too obvious.

You have an awful memory. Lawson has never been good. Campbell covered his arse all the time.
Perhaps. The biggest annoyance I remember with backers in 2023 was backs not getting picked up. I always blamed it on Turner ignoring his keys on when to abort a rush and bail into the flat. However, I suppose Turner may have been catching strays from me and the real culprit was Lawson not getting out there.

I wonder what Kirby was thinking on going for it on 4th &1 with the ball on the 7yd line.
That’s a chip shot game tying field goal with roughly 8mins left in the game. Your defense has shut Bama out in the 2nd half and you have the momentum.
When that happened I looked at my son and friends and said he may have just lost this game and gave all the momentum back to Bama with a huge stop.
For whatever reasons, Kirby decision making against Bama makes absolutely no sense. Why would you not tie the game and at least maybe force overtime? He’s the gift that keeps on giving.

I think they get the first down if they didn’t go tempo. They had a lot of inexperience out there on the OL and that more than anything is why Overton was able to get into the backfield and trip their tailback.
The way they were running on us, that was the correct call. The decision to go tempo with all that OL inexperience was the problem.

He was thinking "They don't set the edge very good on running plays and this play can expose that", and if it hadn't of been for Overton making a superrman play that is exactly what would have happened because there was no one on the edge of that play to make the tackle if Overton hadn't of split those two offensive linemen and made that dynamic play. We were toast schematically on that play.

And the reason he split the guard and tackle was because someone didn’t know their assignment and I am pretty confident that backup RT was supposed to be down blocking Overton.

Yeah I get that on 3rd down, but on 4th dwn the smart play is take the points and tie the game and play the long game

He saw his team averaging 8-10YPC and wanted to take control of the game.
He was coaching like someone who thought our front 7 was not elite and he wanted to roll the dice.
I frankly don't think he did a bad job, in fact his 2H defensive adjustments were masterful because there was a point at which we were on track for 50 points and 550 yard total offense.
Bottom line we just made enough key plays to win because I felt like we wanted it just a little more.

Someone talk me off the ledge regarding run defense and our games against Vandy, Missouri, OU, and even Auburn

Well, Auburn doesn't make any attempt to run the ball.

Bama in the first half offensively dominated the TOP.
UGA scored 14 points on 27 snaps in the first half.
Yikes.

It's always wild on this forum after a big win.
Keon Sapp = not very good but other than that, I think they're good - not great.
The biggest issue is ILB play. It's truly awful.

The interim they're likely to have in charge for the Iron Bowl may change that.

Our starting two ILBs are 5th year seniors and it’s painfully obvious why that is the case. They are not good. Those who say Lawson was good pre-injury are projecting some serious revisionist history. He was average at best and is playing below that right now.

Georgia hit on 5 big runs for 131 yards. The other 28 attempts they got 3ypc. Now of course you gotta clean up the big runs but we were not getting bullied or anything. If I remember correctly it was sweeps and stuff that were gashing us

Our DBs are hot fricking garbage in run support with the exception of Bray.

Yes, we have the 2nd best pass defense in the country because we have played 4 teams that really don’t throw the football that well and everyone feels like they can have success running the ball. I wonder why?
Maybe because our rushing defense is 90th in the country per NCAA stats. That’s pathetic! And it’s another L just waiting to happen. There’s no excuse for our run defense to be that bad except for piss poor coaching/scheme.

Was it sweeps and stuff that gashed us against FSU? I honestly don’t remember. Either way I’m not confident Kane can get it corrected.
