There was a rumor (don't know where I heard/read it) that Pendry provided advice regarding the offense line after the Auburn game. That made sense to me because the
OL looked like a much improved unit in the UGA game. Any one have any thoughts/info on this?

One of the most underrated coaches of the early days of the Saban Era. The offensive lines we had in 2008 and 2009 were absolutely insane. They'd open up holes you could fit an 18-wheeler through.

Imagine how bad Marrone is that we have to bring in a 74 year old that last coached in 2010 to fix our issues.

I honestly don't think it had much of an impact, I think it was better game plan all around.

From the second half of the Auburn game-on, they ditched a lot of RPO stuff and made short passes into a make shift running game.

Seems unlikely IMO, more of a game plan thing against Georgia.

Plus Georgia really did not follow the A&M, Auburn, LSU blueprint to bring pressure

Oh, it had huge impact on the game. Insert Seth at C, and Owens at RT.. and they corrected lot of issues with their technique. Young wasn't sacked at all in the game. So yes, it had huge impact.

I'm prety sure they game planned around the Georgia D Secondary... So I don't think we really ditched it... We just added wrinkles to it. Wouldnt' be shocked to see RPO against Cincy.

Thanks MagillaGuerilla for finding that post by PowHound. Any recent info on McLaughin remaining at center vs Dalcourt and Pendry remaining to help with the
OL?

You're going to have to wait until next week. I dont' expect the line up to change for Cincy...

You don't fix technique in a week, people just want to believe an easy answer. Pendry didn't come in and wave a magic wand and fix everything.

Starting Seth at Center was an easy call with an injured DD, and apparently DD is taking the starting reps in bowl prep.

It was a great gameplan from BoB, and yes they did scrap a lot of the RPO and play action with the RBs. They went empty, heavy motion, and made quick reads in place of running the ball.

Both RBs also did a fantastic job in pass pro, and that right side came to play when UGA pulled some stunts.

I don't expect the same plan for a quicker, better cover team in Cincinnati. You want their CBs to cheat up, and you gotta run well to do that.

Nick Saban after the AU game

COMMENTS
Without considering the four extra overtime periods, it was a long four quarters for the Alabama offensive line during the Iron Bowl. Auburn saw loads of success against a Crimson Tide front that has been beat up and inconsistent all season long.

Head coach Nick Saban was forced to bench right tackle Damieon George in favor of original starter Chris Owens, while starting center Darrian Dalcourt was replaced due to his ankle injury with Seth McLaughlin.

The improvements were marginal, to say the least, as the Tigers tallied 7.0 total sacks on quarterback Bryce Young while also forcing six quarterback hurries, 11 tackles for loss and holding the Crimson Tide to just 71 rushing yards on the night.

With a Georgia defensive front that is likely the top in the nation, Alabama has its work cut out for it and Saban shared what the unit needs to do in order to have a chance on Saturday.

“I think we gotta play more physical,” Saban said the media on Monday. “I think we’ve gotta be more aggressive in terms of how we come out of our hips, play with power, whatever it is. We’ve gotta try and dictate when we’re in the run game and get moving. We did a better job of that in the second half. And we gotta try to give our players a chance with some advantage runs when we do try to run the ball. So pass protection was an issue at times. But we just gotta do a better job of staying square. The quarterback’s gotta do a better job in the pocket so that the O-line knows where he’s going to be.

“So there’s a lot of things we need to work on when it comes to pressures. We gotta have a good plan for how we block them. There’s a lot of things that I think we’re capable of improving and I have a lot of confidence that the players will go about it the right to get it done this week.”

Auburn brought extra rushers the entire game. Georgia pretty stayed with a 4 man rush. You are trying to measure the line's performance against 6 consistent rushers against 4 consistent rushers. It's not apples to apples.

I cannot understand why UGA didn't bring the house and make the line show they were improved since Auburn. But they didn't and we really don't know if our line can handle that yet.

It made sense from their perspective. For every other team they faced bringing 4 was enough. They weren’t focused to stopping the run either so their focus was dropping guys into coverage. What doesn’t make sense is why they waited until the 2nd half to change.

They sent 4 guys on all 3 of Bryce’s TD throws. In the 2nd half when they finally started sending 5-6 guys they got pressure on the vast majority of plays. Now sometimes Bama still got a positive play but it certainly made things much harder for the OL.

I expect Cincinnati to try to blitz a lot too. Arkansas was the last 3-3-5 defense that Bama played that tried to blitz more than they usually do but it didn’t work out for them. Cincinnati has a better secondary so we’ll see.

Auburn brought extra because we couldn't block to save our life. WIth Injuries and lack of adjustments.. took us well into 2nd half before we finally adjusted.

LSU- They brought house every single time. They were betting on house every single time. Our guys were wide open almost all the time.

Georgia- They are not really known for blitzes... They would be playing out of elements if they did what Auburn/LSU did.

Bring in extra rusher, and we switch back to RPO

I want to believe but it seems kinda far fetched how one week of advice can turn that much of an improvement, especially the opponent at hand.

I must have missed that verification.

What do you say Boz. JMO if Joe had come to town the McElroy would have spilled the beans the week after the UGA game.

JMO Nick stuck his head in the OL practice periods and gave the OL coach the same suggestion as you see he told the media. I do believe Doug will be gone after the jocks and socks are put away this year.

I agree though, it's easy to believe the quick fix analogy with him helping but I think it was more to do with our players being motivated by all of the criticism they received from all of the talking heads leading up to that game
