Run game was pathetic. He is a good run blocker. Injuries on the OL. Head scratcher.

What’s the deal with Roberts not playing?

Not sure. I would have thought he could have been utilized as a grinder in the run game

I have no idea why guys who could power run block two years ago can no longer do so.

The only explanations are injury or bad scheme fit. Yall pick because I don’t know.

Bama started the game running well about five yards a clip then we called that stupid slow developing run play with Brooks and never really tried after that. After they went down by 21 though we didn’t have time to run the ball hence 9 attempts. Plus if we can’t throw deep how in the world do we get the defense to quit crowding the box. I’m not saying the OL makes all their blocks but there are plenty of times they seem to be locked up on a man getting push but there are more defenders than there are blockers. If we had RB with vision that would help some.

bad scheme fit.

Has me wondering how many of the OLinemen that carried over from Saban's tenure just don't fit what DeBoer wants to do, making it a square peg situation.

We just don’t win many one on one battles in the trenches …. Plain and simple . You can try to scheme up different runs (zone vs man ) but doesn’t matter when you get beat consistently one on one

It was honestly hard to watch that we knew what the defensive strategy was, yet could do nothing about it. I don’t claim to be in the know, but as a fan, I was extremely disappointed in our coaching staff on the offensive side of the ball last night. I support our guys, some decisions are head scratchers.

18 pressures and 3 sacks . I guess you can technically say the players “ should have been coached better “ but that was player problem last night . Terrible effort . There are a couple of linemen I am ready to see graduate

Geno Van Demark got his shite pushed in yesterday. The whole unit looked like 2005 Iron Bowl level bad.

If it didn’t get pushed in , he was whiffing at rushers as they went by

I get that to a degree, but aside from Proctor and Formby, who else was a Saban recruit that plays? It’s a coaching issue, period. These coaches are not getting the potential out of the players along the OL. Or honestly at many positions.

Grubb seems hell bent on letting talent win matchups instead of scheming up plays to get your guys in favorable matchups.

Gotta think there's some beef between him and the OL coach?

Roberts weight is too far forward (road grader) to do well on horizontal/pull and pass pro. With weight that far out on his toes, a side club and swim, he is eating dirt.

Geno has 3 stances before the snap. Weigh on his down hand (white knickles) he is run blocking. Weight more ballanced, he is pass blocking. Weight sitting back in his stance he is pulling. Good DC's and IDL/LB have been taught to read this and follow him to the play

Formby's weight is better ballanced but he has very slow feet. When he does run block his weight shifts too far forward to help get push. He is then off ballance for a IDL with a good hand shiver and rip.

What has been 'Bama's best OLine since one of the best in school history in 2020? I feel like they've all been pretty average to borderline terrible outside of a few outlier performances (2021/'23 vs UGA)

Tw1st3d,

Obviously our talent on the OL doesn't match what we want to do running the ball right now, couldn't the staff add more power schemes to run the ball preseason until we get the OL to match what want to do?

To me, just seems hard headed and cost this team greatly

Isn’t that about the same time we changed OL coaches because Saban wanted to be able to ground and pound more?

Don’t think too hard although I don't see that being an issue....

The current O-line is bult to zone block. Alabama does not have anyone on staff that knows how to teach it. Teaching it requires the O-line to move in lock step as a unit and that takes a great deal of time.

The O-line does not come close to the skill sets required for what they are trying to do. (with the excption of the center.)
