Then it ought to open for every other team if any player wants to transfer to that team with the coaching change. I think everybody now has to see how stupid these current transfer rules are, too late to help us but I can't imagine it stays like this.

man.... a LOT is going to have to change if they don't plan on just totally shunning every fan that loves the sport we all grew up with. but that is an interesting fix. I do like that risk/reward you're talking about.

This is what I've been saying.

Should be a main portal with 30 day window in Fall, 15 day in spring.

Then there should be a smaller "channel portal" where players may enter only to engage with teams experiencing a HC change. If you get caught speaking with a team that doesn't qualify for this, you risk losing a year of eligibility and that school can be sanctioned resulting in a loss of scholarships.

Attempts to transfer to schools that don't qualify to accept players from the channel portal will be denied unless they are performed in the 30day fall/15 day spring window as well.

I agree with the sentiment but instead the portal shouldn’t open up because of a coaching change. We already have 2 portals.
There is no reason to add extra time

Make it one period of 36 hours in July. Coaches are in place, depth charts are in flux, and enforce harsh sanctions on tampering outside of that period. Also, schools receiving a transfer have to forfeit a roster spot if they admit the incoming player.

It is really a terrible rule. The rest of CFB gets to pull out their wallets and skim through our menu while our staff can only hold on for dear life.

We shouldn’t spend energy on the guys who left. Frick those bitches. Let’s spend our energy on the guys who are staying. Like Booker, Moore or Lawson. Legends.

My main wish is that the players who will end up leaving please just go through with it. Let’s get it all over with.

"We're going to let other teams poach your roster now because it would be a detriment to the athletes if they are unable to enroll in time to be eligible for spring practices but we aren't going to let you backfill those losses with players who will be eligible for spring practices" is peak NCAA bullshite.

Yea sucks for whoever at TX thought they were going to be WR1 next year and now you got Bond coming in and you can’t go anywhere right now.

Same for whoever gets Downs. Somebody on that roster stuck it out with the expectation of starting next year and now they’re instantly 2nd team and can’t do anything until the spring portal opens.

This is dumb af. My team's coach at Alabama quit late August of my freshman year. By April I was on head coach number 3. Imagine forcing any athlete to endure that bullshite and then giving them only 36 hours to find a new spot. This event basically repeated itself 2 decades later, but the coach quit mid-season, in December, instead of right before school starting. It was topped off by Byrne hiring a head coach with 0 coaching experience... who ironically was one of the reasons the former head coach quit mid-season.

Well damn, man, I’m just trying to come up with something.

Is the roster spot forfeiture any good?

I'd also be down with this.

Bama players may leave, however they'll have to wait until the spring portal to do so

I know, and I understand most of y'all don't have the perspective of going through it as a student-athlete. I personally hate the penalty free transfers, especially in conference ones... but you're not incorrect in thinking the current system is incredibly unsustainable. I wish I had a counterpoint plan, but things are so beyond fricked from so many different angles

I had a friend competing for auburn that had shoulder issues. They may have come via wakeboarding and not solely training lol. Baw was ranked top 25 in the world type good. Auburn absolutely refused the repair surgery and instead opted to permanently red shirt dude. UF was willing to do the surgery, but the prolapsed anus coach at auburn refused to sign off on the transfer, essentially killing his ncaa career. It was Travis Carroll all over again, minus auburn didn't get dude a used car I hate everything about that part of the old system. Somewhere between the 2 should be a compromise that's fair to the schools and athletes.

I'll also add I had a teammate transfer to auburn. I fully endorsed his 2 year competitive hiatus Unsure if he ended up marrying that chick he transferred for, but I sure hope he did.

Said it before and I'll say it every time...if the entire roster of an NFL team doesn't become free agents whe a coach leaves, a college roster shouldn't either.

And before someone says the NFL guys have contracts...a college player signs a piece of paper also.

There should ONLY be a portal window post-spring. If we'd get back to that you'd also be helping the high school athletes that are having opportunities reduced.

They should just not open the last portal til a week after the championship game is played for every team. This would prevent this type of targeted plundering.

Lot's of people wanted NIL and transfer portal. But not happy when it happens the other way around. I didn't like it to start with and it is getting worst by the day. Welcome to the new age of college football.
