Let's say this was January of last year, who do you hire?

People are idiots if they think any coach was going to waltz in and turn Milroe into a Heisman candidate. But maybe they would have at least benched him midway through the season...

Does it really matter? Given the power that the players now have via NIL and the portal ... and it's not going to change, neither Congress nor any "college football commissioner" is going to ride to the rescue ... does it really matter?

The large and in charge coaches with big footprints and big personalities like Saban may be a thing of the past, and technicians like DeBoer may be the rule rather than the exception.

DeBoer was the best option, and probably would still be the best option, even knowing what we now know. That doesn’t mean he’s a good fit, but who else would we really have the chance of getting? Norvell? Freeman maybe?

There is nobody else. Lanning wasnt gonna come. Kiffin burned bridges AND lost 3 games with an equally talented team and a much easier schedule. Sark wasnt gonna come, Dabo refuses to move to modern football. Even promising coaches like Liepold had disappointing seasons. Sunbelt Billy? Mike Norvell lol?

Bama got a good coach. He had bumps in the road and made some critical mistakes. Good coaches learn from their mistakes and improve.

It’s hard to knock the hire. KDB was in the national championship game and had a really impressive record. Byrne got the best available hire.

That said, the unknown was KDB had never coached in a league like the SEC and had never been at a job with the pressure near the level of Alabama.

This isn’t a perfect solution, but I still think Kiffin could’ve been a decent replacement for Saban. He at least knew the territory. He still has warts as coach and there are people in Tuscaloosa that will never let that happen,

Sounds like we should change the whole setup. Switch to option football with 3 year commitments from kids who thrived in option in high school?

Idk wished we could have kept Sark

So who would have came and who do we like better or worse?

Deboer or Kiffin?

Deboer or Sark?

Deboer or the coach of Miami?

You know...if Demeco keeps losing....

God forbid we look at an assistant coach.

Well said. Cignetti had an impressive season but he's near retirement already and Indiana looked outclassed when they played decent opponents. I don't look around college football and see many promising coaches.

I’ll ask this question … given how DeBoer is getting slaughtered for a winning season in which he defeated the SEC champion and won the Iron Bowl, how eager would anyone be to take this job? It ain’t like the old days where people chased challenges and tradition, they can make just as much money with fewer headaches.

People jumped on Cignetti because he seemed old school but it turned out the emperor had no clothes.

Haha. DeBoer is getting slaughtered because we lost to three terrible teams and regressed as the season went on. Our standard isn’t and never should be beating Auburn and upsetting the SEC Champion.

Plenty of people would take the job because we pay a lot of money.

A winning season in which he defeated the SEC champion and won the iron bowl. Goebbels would be proud of that spin.

The thing is even Saban was slipping. The talent field is settling at an equilibrium across the sport.

Clearly wasn't a option for Saban or DeBoer for whatever reason.

Would love to know how or why this dude held two coaches hostage.

OK. Who? DeBoer lost 4 games this year he should've won. I'll cede that point. But who has a better resume?

Sark?
Kiffin?
Lanning?
Ryan Day?

Kirby does, no doubt.

Who else has a better resume than DeBoer? A guy that coached IowaSt into the BIGXIICG and lost?

Give me a break.

DeBoer is the guy. Milroe was an absolute albatross.

Most coaches would take $10M and the buyout.
