blame than the LSU fans for the negative attention the [perfectly legal] hit that was put on Daniels.
These 2 announcers just like to stir the pot...especially against Bama. Gary was describing how it was definitely targeting and the other guy said...yes, Turner did everything wrong during the tackle...lol.
Even after reviewing the play, which they did because all plays are reviewed during a break in the action. Gary and his partner could have offered a rebuttal but didnt!

LSU fans already think Danielson is pro-Bama. Can you imagine the heck that would have come from them taking any other approach? Not that they should fear to speak the truth, but I can't imagine the outcry

Just like all media, they feel the need to sensationalize everything

I was at the game, so luckily I didn't have to listen to that clown. I didn't realize they were so one-sided in their opinion.

It was disgusting...they all but crucified Turner. You should go back and listen.

I mean they called it like they saw it, which is their job. I think definitely roughing, couldn't have argued against targeting if that had been the call.
I also thought Bryce was targeted on a late hit last year vs UTk and not ref one reached for their flags.
I'd rather the call be called evenly or further clarified. It feels to have morphed from crown of head to head with a launch vs a defenseless player. Now, it's called/not called for shoulders up with a lot more subjectivity.
I think that is the reason for the frustration.
Hope to see Daniels bounce back quickly; he's fun to watch. More so when not having to defend him.

Targeting could be called on every tackle made in a game. You make a tackle you lead with your head. You make a hit, you lead with your head.
RB’s, WR’s, TE’s and even QB’s when getting tackled lead with their head. There is no way to avoid it unless you take tackling out of the game.
Fans have been reprogrammed now to accept it, but all it’s done is caused more problems.
Bottom line is they don’t want to be liable for future lawsuits on concussions or spinal injuries. So they made all these rules to try and make it safer, but it’s still going to happen because that’s how the game of football is and always has been. Violent, Brutal hard hitting knock the crack outta your arse type of game. I’m surprised they haven’t banned boxing or mma fights because of this.
Players know the risk and they accept it. They know the dangers and they accept it

I could have, because it wasn't.

I think he was referring to the tendency by offensive players to lower their head when they know contact is coming.

I don't disagree. Helmet to helmet looked like after the hit on the drive to the ground. But, it has become so subjectively and non-uniformly called/not called that it leaves the door open for this nonsense.
I do know, if it were reversed in the situation. I'm over it pretty quickly, and just like I am for Daniles, I'd be hoping for Milroe to get back in it as soon as healthy.
I'd be more pissed if Saban had put a concussed player right back on the field. That shite with Tua last year in Miami was scary as hell.

I agree the commentary was off-base at that point.
Having said that, it's interesting to me how seemingly every single fanbase fully and firmly believes that Gary Danielson is blatantly supporting their opponent whenever he calls a game. It's almost uncanny how he's perceived throughout the SEC fandom.
I think it's one of two things:
- Either he's extremely good at his job and points out positives for both teams, or
- He's amazingly horrible at his job and ticks off everyone equally.
I generally appreciate his insight, and I'll miss having him on Alabama games in the future. I think former players, particularly former QBs, bring a lot of knowledge to the broadcast. Todd Blackledge is another I like a lot.

I’d put some of the blame on the announcers, but alcohol and generations of a dumbed down gene pool are more to blame for the stupidity in LSU fans

How does anyone get upset about a targeting call or no call? The rule is arbitrary and inconsistently applied, so I don’t know how anyone can definitively say something is or isn’t targeting.

Danielson isn’t a bad guy, but his major flaw is that he talks way more than most color analysts. He says 10 words when 5 will do. Remember when Cody blocked the UT field goal in 2009 and threw his helmet off? Danielson vomited all over that moment when he went on and on about Cody’s helmet. So much so that Kiffin & UT fans cried about it the following week.
Danielson’s big mouth and his desire to speculate is a big reason people think we get all the calls.

initially it did look like targeting so can give benefit of doubt to Gary
In slow motion it wasnt close to targeting and borderline a penalty itself

If you've seen the picture floating around that shows the hit from the back you can clearly see Turner didn't target him.
