What kind of talent level are we talking about with Ty? Anyone know how he’s performed in practice? I’m not convinced Milroe can’t figure out his passing game with a good coach but what does the board think in this way-too-early time?

Simpson was a 5-star. That’s about all we know other than those that have seen him at scrimmages and practice. Milroe is fast af, but he’s a turnover machine so far. It’s basically Blake Sims vs. Jake Coker 2.0 with both players being faster but with less experience.

I’ve watched both at practices and scrimmages. Ty has a ton of talent and pretty good set of wheels. Jalen is obviously fast as shite but struggled with touch on the ball. Gun to my head I’d say Ty overtakes Jalen with the current progression unless Jalen has a breakthrough of some kind. It’s not impossible look at Jalen Hurts. I think it’s also important to look at the cast around them as well. WR wise we have freshman who really turned it on at the end of the year, plus brooks and Burton being solid. A ton of running back talent. OL seems to be trending in the right direction. TE? Dunno there, the transfer looks promising.

Malik Benson is going to start day one or at least be a co starter. As long as he knows the play book he will be a impact player. His speed and play making ability is ridiculous. Dippre will be as good as Latu if not better. I also want to see how Niblack improves. He and Danny Lewis could contribute.

Ty Simpson is a much better player than Jake Coker. That's not a realistic comparison.

I've never viewed QB speed as particularly important. Dan Marino was about as fast as a Garbage Scow but it didn't matter. Tom Brady can't run either. The QB's job is to deliver the ball quickly. I realize in some situations where you have inexperienced players and or a bad offensive line you can put a running QB in there and give yourself a better chance to win, but a team like Alabama should never begin their plan with that, the plan should be to get the best passer behind the best offensive line. If crap breaks down perhaps later you do something to try and get by but Alabama is not a 3rd rate program. We were at WORST the 3rd best team in the country this season and it was a huge down year for us. I haven't seen Ty play but I've seen Milro. He's not going to cut it as is. He will get his chance to improve this spring but if I were coach I'd tell him he needs to improve his read time and accuracy and forget about running the ball for now. If I had to I'd strap a weight vest to his back and basically take that option away from him.

Ty was the #2 dual threat QB in his class. He’s plenty talented and is a coaches son. Not saying he is BY, but he is good!!

I really hope Simpson is ready to lead the team. 2023 depends on it. Bama is a 3 loss team with Milroe.

How can you say this:
quote:

Simpson was a 5-star. That’s about all we know

And then say this:
quote:

Jake Coker 2.0

Jury obviously still out on Simpson. Throws a good ball. Arm strength looks very promising. We have no idea about the intangibles - how much and how well does he study, how quickly can he process what he's seeing, how much respect does he have among the other players on the team? All of that is super important at the position. I think those questions will be answered relatively quickly, though. We should know by mid-September about a good bit of that.

Former 5*, #4 QB in his class

quote:

An early enrollee at the University of Alabama, highly touted signal caller Ty Simpson has the potential to be the Crimson Tide’s next best prospect at the quarterback position. The Tennessee native ranks as the No. 26 prospect in the country according to the 247Sports industry-generated composite and No. 36 prospect according to the Top247, ranking in the top five among his position group in both. Simpson finished his senior year claiming a state title, in addition to throwing for over 2900 yards and 44 TD’s through the air.

Possesses adequate size for his position at 6-foot-1 plus and a shade under 200-pounds. Has growth potential to add additional weight to his frame at the next level. Displays good athletic ability in the pocket and above average mobility as a runner.

Predominant pocket passer, comes from a spread run-pass option scheme in high school. Demonstrates good foot quickness and body quickness in the pocket, showing a natural ability to extend plays with his feet in or outside the pocket. Plays with good feel and instincts as a passer, keeping his eyes down field while withstanding pressure. Appears to have a clean and abbreviated throwing motion, demonstrating the ability to get the ball out quickly and from a variety of angles.

Displays good arm strength as a passer, showing the ability to make every throw on the field. Flashes accuracy at every level possessing an ability to throw his receivers open and play with anticipation. Has a poise to his passing game in the pocket but also excels with his ability to improvise and extend plays with his feet. More of a passer, but you have to respect his feet as a runner. Rushed for over 1200 yards and 15 TD’s on the ground in his senior season.

Balanced in both his abilities as a passer and runner, Simpson poses a multi-dimensional threat for opposing defenses at the next level, showing the ability to play within or outside the structure of an offensive attack. Projects to an all-conference, potential all-american prospect at the next level. Needs one season to sit and develop as he acclimates to the speed of the game at the collegiate level, but possesses the ability to be a multi-year high level performer for a Power Five program.

Ty Simpson 247

Recruiting rankings aren't the end all be all, but it's a good bet that a 5* QB isn't going to be bad.

His high school highlights are legit. Won a state title with average talent around him. He could be incredible with the talent that Bama will have.

Really? How many rings does Simpson have? How many games has he started or even played in? Apparently he’s not good enough to come in after Milroe turned the ball over three times against the worst team in the West this season.

I can say it because we know as much about Simpson vs Milroe as we did Coker vs Sims in 2014. Or McCarron vs Star Jackson for that matter. It’s a blank slate.

I’m saying it’s the second battle when I put 2.0. Not that he’s Jake Coker 2.0.

Lane Kiffins greatest accomplishment in Tuscaloosa was his development of Blake Sims.
Blake couldn't hit the side of a barn until Lane showed up.
I don't see Milroe s touch improving unless he receives elite coaching/ training.

We shouldn't be starting projects at QB.

Saban has pulled this BS before with Hurts and Tua.

Tua never "replaced" Hurts until the second half of the final game when we were losing. Was Tua worse than hurts until that time?

Jake was one of my favorite Bama players but he didn't have the talent of Tye Simpson so that's not an accurate comparison. I don't know if Tye was a five star. I know for sure Jake was not a five star.
Blake Sims had a very quick release which Milroe absolutely does not have. Milroe is a huge, huge project and with Alabama's roster of talent doesn't need to waste time with project players.
