I’m going with players lacking pride/work ethic. Now… do we put that on coaching or do we blame leadership on the team?

I think Bryce is a phenomenal athlete and QB, but I don’t think he’s the type of leader we needed for this teams mentality,

If players are lacking in pride/work ethic ... then we missed on them. That's a bad eval. Evaluating the mental makeup is just as important if not more important than evaluating the physical toolset.

That a good point. I didn’t think about that angle.

OR ... do we have the right players, and our schemes aren't putting them in the right place / giving them the best opportunity to succeed.

Maybe in this case it IS the Xs and Os, and not the Jimmies and Joes.

I still say that this is one reason why Scott Cochran was so valuable. All of those off-season workouts where by rule only Cochran was allowed to have contact with the team. That's where that work ethic gets developed. That's where leadership emerges.

That can’t be it. Metchie and Jameson thrived under BoB so how is it coaching?

both of them were coached up under others and made BoB look better than he was. Nobody could cover them

I won't disagree Scott was key at one point but the cracks started showing toward the end of Scott's run at Bama (although that could have been attributed to a lack of focus on his part due to his personal demons).

I do find it ironic Bama really started a slide when he left while Georgia started dominating...

Not totally wrong but coaches are also supposed to be motivators. You can't expect a team to be full of self-starters.

I don’t think there’s been any true Alpha leaders. Especially on the defense. Years past Bama always had that Jonathan Allen type that instilled that mean arse mentality throughout the team. We haven’t seen that in 2 or 3yrs. Need to recruit that mentality again

Most the time… players are a reflection of their coaches

I'll take option 3 - coaching

I think we've been missing player development. Guys aren't getting better during their tenures. In the past players typically showed exponential growth.
