Not sure what this has to do with the need for a new arena.
It has plenty to do with a new arena. We somehow can’t consistently fill even 2/3 of Coleman with arguably the most talented team in Bama history. That’s sad and certainly affects how you evaluate prospective future cash flow streams from ticket sales, concessions, etc. in a new arena. If we would pack out Coleman the business case for a new arena would look way more attractive.

The thing that annoys me is I guarantee if Saban needed a football project done for similar cost, shovels would be in the ground ASAP. That’s always been my biggest gripe, we play more than 1 sport at this school

I am pretty sure Coleman will be at least 2/3rds full the rest of our home games this season. Our bball program hasn't been supported by our athletic department to the level to put a product on the floor that makes fans want to come since Gottfried left, til now, so its hard for me to blame the fans. If we can keep Oats and keep winning the fan support will be there. It will be a lot easier to sell out a 10,000 seat arena too.

When we are good the fans show up, we have been good what 3 years out of the last 20 if that? Hard to blame the fans. We have an elite coach now and need to do what it takes to keep him, and he obviously wants a new arena.

Its really mind boggling how bad our bball program has been recently, since 2006 we have made the tournament 4 times. Thats 4 times in over 15 years. We should bare minimum be making the tournament every year, missing the tournament is about the same as not even getting to a bowl game in football. Its been embarrassing.

We finally luck into hiring a good coach, for cheap of course, and here we are having to beg for an arena that shouldve been built 10 years ago in order to keep him.

Im mad sorry, Im gonna go have a beer lol.

I’m not acting like it’s not a factor. I just call bs on everyone piling on battle every time this gets brought up. Yes, they did do upgrades to Bryant denny over the past ten years. They also blew up tutwiler and rebuilt that. Battle also kept Saban at UA when Texas came knocking in 2013. First things first dude.

We have 10,000-11,000 fans pretty consistently. But when you have an almost 16,000 seat Arena that’s 5,000-6,000 empty seats and it’s noticeable and they are so far away from the court it creates a dead environment. UK and Arkansas are the only 2 schools in the SEC that could consistently fill up an arena our size.

We need to downgrade to about 10,000 seats…..MUCH closer to the floor

I’m glad we give him everything he wants too, even if we are only really good in one mens sport, at least we are the best in that sport, and being the best in college football is very expensive.

Basketball is the second most popular college sport, and the fans will show up if we start putting money into a coach and an arena and start winning consistently, which I have no doubt we can do under Oats.

I dont understand why its so hard for us to put money into basketball, Tennessee has done it, Auburn has done it, friggin Ole Miss has a new arena.

Our athletic department gets plenty enough money donated to it, we are one of the top 5 wealthiest athletic programs in college sports. It's time to spend some of that money on something aside from football. We all love Alabama football of course but we have a chance to be a top program in Bball now too, we definitely have the coach for it. There's literally no acceptable excuse for us not to build a new arena.

I think donors can earmark their money for a program of their choosing. Just because we have a lot of money coming in doesn't mean we have the freedom to spend that money any way we choose.

The money for the arena was/is being donated mainly through the crimson standard fundraising initiative, which is for sporting facilities specifically, including the new bball arena. How do some of you guys not know this? Its been going on since 2018.

For reference, here's where we stand so far this season:

Coleman capacity is 14,474

Longwood 10472 72%
Liberty 10270 71%
Jacksonville St 9018 62%
South Dakota St 9195 63%
Memphis 9195 64%
Jackson St 8803 61%
Ole Miss 8505 59%
Kentucky 13474 93%

If we can't fill Coleman for Kentucky with all their fans too, our arena is too large. Think we need one around 10-11,000 to keep it consistently full or near full and improve the environment. It's too large and dark.

Not sure, just going by the attendance report on EPSN. It has it at 14,474. They might be wrong?

The most sickening part is we build the South Endzone Upper deck at BDS the same time Auburn built Auburn Arena.

Auburn Arena cost $86M

The Endzone expansion cost $81M and we didn’t even need it. It’s made BDS too big.

Fuxking sickening

That's kind of my point. People can give for whatever they want in athletics. I did not know the specific name of the fund, but thanks for proving my point.

Yeah and we spent over $90M upfront in the Crimson Standard plan to put gold on BDS….why wasn’t the Basketball Arena the top priority?

It’s infuriating

Yep. With the CTF, you can designate to whatever. I made sure to tell them my donation was for the new arena. I didn’t want my funds going to the new golf facility or other improvements.
