Hill is more than serviceable with good blocking. I was watching Trent Richardson highlights yesterday and it was just wild to see how on so many of his runs he never got touched before reaching the line of scrimmage, if not 2 or 3 yards downfield. Last year it seemed like every time our RBs got the ball there were multiple dudes already in the backfield.

It’s a snowball problem too: can’t trust blocking so backs get happy feet.

DeBoer complimenting the team scares me. He should concentrate on improvement not how good they looked. Any time Bryant complimented the team, which was rare, they were bad and showed it on the field. The more he whined the better they were. Saban was similar but not as profound as Bryant.

Coach Bryant NEVER, EVER “whined”. He would for example sometimes say “We’re not very good at tackling” or “We aren’t very good at blocking”, etc. CPB would do that intentionally because he knew his players read what he said to the media and he hoped to motivate them to play better. He also hoped opposing teams would underestimate Bama.
To expect CKD to mimic or be just like CPB isn’t realistic. Completely different coaching styles and in a completely different era. Frankly, I don’t care how CKD approaches this as long as the team improves.

Not sure how familiar you are with Bryant. My freshman year at Alabama was 1958 the year Bryant showed up. I was on my way to Atlanta to attend the Alabama vs Georgia Tech game and Daddy said Dodd and Bryant will have to play because both teams have so many injuries, they won't have eleven guys to start. Is that considered whining?

No offense intended, but are you telling us you are 85 years old?

Correct, that may account for my goofy thinking.

Something with our linemen or style is tipping defenses off to runs

I was on the opposite end of Coach Bryant’s career. I graduated in May, 1983. I always read anything he said to the media and always listened to his weekly radio show. I never once heard him say anything that could be considered whining.
I didn’t personally know him but I did have a professor who would chat with him from time to time. He would pass along harmless bits of information every now and then. Told me CPB was a scotch drinker once and toward the end, really, really didn’t enjoy recruiting toward the end but I think that was fairly common knowledge.
Linnie Patrick was kind of the canary in the coal mine in terms of how the recruiting landscape had changed. Not that Linnie was a bad guy but I think I think CPB kind of saw the handwriting on the wall that times were changing.

I left the state after I graduated, so I may not be as familiar as others, but I did keep up to an extent. I don't know about your reference to Patrick. I remember he was from Jasper and a friend of mine said he was going to be the next tailback at USC. Bryant had a unique charismatic personality. If you wanted to talk to him during the football season all you had to do was show up at the Bright Star Cafe in Bessemer about five miles from where I grew up on early Sunday evenings. He always stopped for dinner on his way back from doing his show in Birmingham. Jimmy and Nicky took good care of him. I don't know about now, but then it may have been the best restaurant in the state.

You literally have no idea if he's elite. He's not played a single meaningful game in college football yet. You're the same guy that constantly bashed Ty, who was the 13th pick in the draft all last season. Pump the brakes, dude, let the guy actually prove himself first. Lol

He's elite, youll see. Ty was good but he could not hit the deep ball.
I think now knowing the injury stuff about Ty was true, I was a little harsh, but he shouldn't have been playing at the end of the year.
Also, we have to be honest in that Ty wouldn't have gone first round if Dante Moore and the Ole Miss QB went pro. In fact I think 3 QBs stayed in college for the money that would have gone over him.
Him declaring this season was smart.

Ty was fine on deep balls until he got banged up around the Mizzou and Tennessee games.
So if you use a sample of games where teams locked in our inability to run the ball and he was playing with a screwed up back, then yeah totally.

This seems to always be the case, regardless of who the head coach is or what type of offense is being run. It all starts, and ends, with what is upfront.

I hope I'm still as enthusiastic about Alabama football when I'm your age.

You use the internet pretty well for someone who graduated college before the DARPA project to invent it was started.

Ty went 2-14 on 30+ air yard throws.

I agree. DeBoer will either come out looking like a genius or idiot with his o line portal additions. I don't think there is an in between.
