Does anyone know who the renowned ILB coaches are in the league right now - particularly ones available for hire. I don’t know if PGolding is a good or bad PLAY CALLER, but one thing is for sure - he/other position coaches cannot communicate his scheme with the players. At all. I give the secondary coach a pass because the safeties are young (or in Daniel Wright’s case, just not superstars), and the outside CBs/nickel back play well. But I watched 8 and 32 particularly closely this game, and it was mind blowing how confused they were with pre-snap motion by the offense - they were ALWAYS confused on who had what assignment and late on the adjustment. It’s painfully obvious 8 and 32 don’t know what they are supposed to do on nearly every snap.

I know it’s been said a million times, but Mack Wilson was almost just as lost in 2018 as our guys are now, and then a year later he’s starting for an NFL team and immediately picking up on more complex NFL schemes. Our defense, and particularly the linebackers, need either 1) a proven college DC/ILB coach that can clearly translate his thoughts/scheme/play calls to his players, or 2) a NFL linebacker coach who is looking for a job. This is not an apples-to-apples comparison, but look at what a New Orleans Saints assistant did for LSU/Burrow and their offense last year in only a very short amount of time. These NFL guys, in general, know what works and what doesn’t at the highest level. The only drawback I could think of is the potential problem of their unwillingness to put in work on the recruiting trail - which cannot be understated.

Dude sucks.
Couldn’t even scheme to stop a QB that can’t pass.

After re-watching the game it jumps out that we decided to play up front with a 2-4 base defense.
It saw Sanders and Anderson play a lot of snaps with there hands on the ground.
But realistic that's still only 2 D-linemen.

Fla adjusted by double teaming the best interior D-line men and slanting there runs away from the other. This combined with running more at sanders with the QB option. It positioned Sanders making him take on Offensive tackles on run plays away from Anderson's side. This combined with plenty Option choices saw sanders crashing the RB hard too many times. But that's not saying the kid did not play a good game, because he made plays also.

Just a guess but we seemed to have game planed to be more quicker to offset there running QB rather than having a solid 3 linemen at all times against the run.

Fla was also running options out of 3 wr sets and or a TE running routes which meant we had to have 5 DB's.So that's 5 DB, 4 Lb'ers to just 2 interior linemen.

We just did not have a great defensive plan or give credit to Mullen who seem Saban's defense enough to adjust to personel.I will say it again had Metchie caught the deep pass bryce threw on the run we maybe punch it in and go up 28-3.This maybe puts Fla in a more pass more position possessions wise making them more one dimensional.
Maybe keeping 4 lb'ers would have been more affective shooting inside gaps but if its an option on the edge there trapped inside.Toto was stuck inside waiting to see were the QB or RB was at.So Fla backs were like FB dives but with a true tail back.against 2 interior linemen.

The whole mush rush thing works well when you have 3-4 guys on the DL who can really control & collapse the pocket to contain the quarterback.

But when you don’t have the ability to do that.. as we have seen quite a few times over the past three years, well then teams can do what they want and march up and down the field.

I just cannot understand why we continue to do this when we know we aren’t affecting the quarterback for multiple consecutive drives. I don’t know if saban is telling Golding to stick with the mush rush come hell or high water, but Golding makes ZERO adjustments during the course of a game. Been this way for three years.

That's really all that needs to be said. The amount of time it takes them to do it varies from their first drive of the game to early-mid 3rd quarter, but as soon as an OC figures out how to attack whatever Golding is doing it's curtains for the defense. Any stops they get from that point forward will be largely due to mistakes by the offense.

#8 is not a starting ILB on a Bama team. The guy looks the part but has zero football savvy.

LINK

watch these highlights and watch #8 only....

Is Jeremy Pruitt coaching anywhere? If I'm Saban, I'm on the phone with him first thing tomorrow. I tried to give Golding the benefit of the doubt, but if you can't get this stable of studs to perform then it's YOU not them.

Also, if Bama's pass rush against Ole Miss looks anything like yesterday, Corral will rip Bama a new arse hole.

He’s with the Jets. And has a pending NCAA investigation. Pruitt is not going to be in college football anytime soon.

So who here has the balls to call into the radio show on Thursday and ask why our linebackers suck under Golding's tutelage?

Rodney Orr posted yesterday that Pruitt expected to be cleared by end of the year. I hope so.
