I'm hoping we get back to some smashmouth football and the running game a bit more this yr, so there isn't that much pressure on whichever QB takes the reigns.

I disagree that Morris starting would be a nightmare. I think he would do fine, especially if we truly do go Bck the smash mouth style offense we all like.

Morris starting would be an EXTREME statement of confidence in the OL and D.

Morris woild be fine. He would be steady, has a decent arm, knows the offense, and im sure world have the team behind him. Go watch the spring game. He looked pretty good dedpite being under constant pressure

Which is why I'm failing to see why people think he sucks so bad.

In '13 Morris was pretty good on A-day. Got the majority of snaps in the 2nd half because Blake Sims struggled so much. Led what would've been a game winning late TD drive if not for a drop by Black in the end zone.
I know that was just a spring game, but I think he has the skills to be an above average SEC QB if Coker tanks and the younger options aren't ready yet.

Who did we miss on the year we took Bateman? I know he was not the first option. Was it "No chest"?
Posted on 8/18/15 at 2:03 pm to sarc
Minkah Fitzpatrick I would guess.

It's Daron Payne:
quote:
“Per a source, Payne, like Fitzpatrick and Ridley, will play right away and be factored into the game plan from the get-go,” said Bartow. “Even more impressive for a lineman.”
quote:
The Alabama staff knew that he only stood to improve with time in the Tide's strength and condition program and that is exactly what has happened.
Flash forward to August, and Payne is not only living up to the hype, but he is pushing his way up the depth chart.

Alec Morris was the end result of missing Gunner Kiel and Jameis Winston. Technically missed them twice, as they had multiple opportunities to get either.
Bama missed on Christian Hackenberg and Max Browne to wind up with Cooper Bateman(and the other 2 QBs). They didn't even try to really recruit Jeremy Johnson that year, though he was a big Auburn lock. Spent time chasing Brice Ramsey too, though was committed to UGA.

That is right. Sorry Saint.

Damn maybe that insider on BOL was right. Yea he got some stuff wrong but he nailed Minkah and Payne...

Yeah, I remember reading stories about Saban skyping with Ramsey. Also, we offered Shane Morris who ended up at Michigan that cycle. We definitely offered and had some sort of relationship with the top guys. Cooper was arguably a top guy that cycle anyway.
Our biggest mistake, IMO was offering Parker McLeod instead of Josh Dobbs out of the Atlanta area. Dobbs was the 2nd QB commit for Tennessee that cycle. He was pretty much sitting there begging for an SEC school to notice him.

I remember that one guy on BOL who essentially said Dobbs would commit on an offer, I think it was the Tyren Jones guy.
He would talk about how overlooked Dobbs was, and it looks like he was right on that...

I'm not convinced that Dobbs is anything other than an average QB...

Alabama returned the the practice field Tuesday afternoon, as the Crimson Tide players practiced indoors and in full pads on a cloudy, 84-degree afternoon in Tuscaloosa. It was the team's 15th practice of its 2015 fall camp.
Here are several tidbits from Alabama's 15th fall training camp practice session on Tuesday:
- Quarterback Jacob Coker (foot) was at Tuesday's practice, working off to the side with head trainer Jeff Allen. Coker was fully dressed out and was doing some light drills with a medicine ball. He is still expected to be out "several days."
- With Coker out of the mix with an injury, it was Alec Morris, Cooper Bateman, David Cornwell and Blake Barnett -- in that order -- left in the quarterback line. Toward the end of the media viewing portion of practice, the quarterbacks worked on combo routes with the wide receivers. The first two QBs up were Morris and Cornwell, followed by Bateman and Barnett.
- Running back Kenyan Drake (hamstring) still appeared to be limited, as he wore a support apparatus on his right leg to limit the mobility of his injured hamstring. He did, however, go through drills, toward the back of the line, at half speed.
- The running back line was led by junior Derrick Henry on Tuesday, as it has been all of fall camp. Behind him was recently-enrolled freshman Damien Harris, Ronnie Clark and walk-on Derrick Gore.
- Robert Foster (knee) was not wearing a brace today, but he did line up at the back of the receiver line he usually heads. He appeared to be taking things easy on Tuesday. In his place at the front of the line was freshman Calvin Ridley.
- Wide out Chris Black (ankle) participate in pass-catching drills but was only running at about half speed on Tuesday.
- The Crimson Tide defenders lined up in what appeared to be its nickel formation toward the end of the viewing periods, and the movement continues for the secondary. The corners were Cyrus Jones and Marlon Humphrey, the safeties were Geno Smith and Eddie Jackson, the two extra DBs were Maurice Smith and Minkah Fitzpatrick and the Mack linebacker was Reuben Foster.
- Former Alabama linebacker Jerrell Harris was at the athletic complex, sporting some Detroit Lions gear before practice.

Didn't the Lions just release Harris?

Which unfortunately would have still been a homerun compared to what they did take in that class.
McLeod doesn't even play football anymore and Del Rio is on his 3rd school.
