It's hardly bad luck. Something is going on with conditioning because this has been happening too frequently since the start of the 2017 season. And it seems to hit one position group (the linebackers) the hardest. And I agree with the premise that there is absolutely NO reason for a player like Dylan Moses to be going full speed on Tuesday of a game week.

We'd still be in huge trouble even if we had Dean and Tootles.

I think most think Harris and Lee are super talented. That isn't the issue.

Our defense even with the injuries has to better then what we put on the field last year which may be the worst I have seen at UA under Saban. With that said our O played average against good Ds and we still made it to the playoffs. No team on our schedule has anywhere the offense OU did last year and with that defense we still won the game. So sorry not ready to pack it in for the season.

Today's players are much bigger, faster, and stronger.

In 1971, Tom Surlas started at MLB for Alabama. 5'11, 198. Moses is 6'3, 235.

John Hannah was 6'3, 274. That's hard to fathom today. The guys on our OL are as much as 50 pounds heavier or more and maybe 3 inches taller. Moses is getting hit with a lot more force, moving at a greater speed, than the LBs when Dye coached for Bryant.

Yeah, at some point you have to stop chalking it up to bad luck and try to determine if something else is going on. I really don't want to say my suspicions, as they are just that.

Absolutely. At this point we are past this being a coincidence and bad luck. We are losing one or two starting linebackers for the season every year, and the rest of the team that isn't out for the year is beaten to hell before we even play a game. Every single year.

At this point, I honestly wouldn't be mad if all of the remaining spots in this recruiting class were LB's.

Last year's defense was bad because there was so much inexperience at MLB. The same thing we're going to have this year.

aint that the truth. Its hard to believe that, even with the injuries, we will be in worse shape than last year. Hell, even Moses sucked a lot last year.

Unless one of them has a Ro as a freshman caliber grasp of the defense we are pretty fricked. McKinney is going to have to do it all by himself, which is probably going to negatively effect his own performance.

Yeah.

Guys are getting bigger, faster, and stronger than ever. That's what's going on.

When you twist a leg in an odd manner, when you get hit in a sensitive area by another player, all of that is happening with increasingly more force being exerted. I would contend that insufficient strength and conditioning isn't the problem...rather that it is developing to the point where, when guys are being hit with more force or, if an ankle or knee is twisted, it's happening with increasingly more force than the body can handle.

Prayers for Dylan.

It appears we'll be starting two true freshmen ILBs, Shane Lee and Christian Harris. Hopefully they'll be settled in by the time we're playing tougher competiton.

Also, I hope those of you who went into "nbd - we are completely set at ILB" mode when we lost out on Dean and To'oto'o realize how dumb that take is now. I mean, you probably don't, because you're the type of person who initially got yourself OK with losing Dean by saying "nbd - we've got To'oto'o coming" and then followed that a couple of months later with "eh, nbd on To'oto'o either" with zero cognitive dissonance, but I hope you do anyway.

There has been a lot of this lately. Nothing's a big deal somehow...

Is there some kind of drill that our LBs are running in practice that is weakening their knees??

but, to your point, wouldn't that mean that the players getting hit are able to take harder and faster blows, because they too are bigger and stronger? haven't quite a few of these injuries been non-contact?

I'm not saying that this is conditioning or coaches. I don't know what the dang problem is. I'm just an idiot posting on a message board, but I would like to know if we have been doing something differently from the early Saban years.

With regard to getting everyone lined up correctly and getting the signals called? Who? Typically it's the FS and an ILB who do that. Our ILBs are now true freshmen. One of them is going to have to do it.
