Probably because Russell has at least one more year, and we would like to have consistency at QB for a change. He’s also a dual threat QB which we need if the O-line hasn’t turned a 180.

He also has incredible skills. He “appears” to have an upside that few who’ve ever entered Tuscaloosa have had. Not only does he have terrific physical tools but an innate feel for what to do. When and where to throw, whether to pass or tuck and run, etc. And appears to have the poise that comes with knowing you “have it” without being arrogant about it. He comes alive when the “lights come on”. If those things are true the only thing that can derail him, barring injury, is arrogance.
His teammates deeply believe in him. He engenders great confidence in the whole team.
Certainly the coaches know this and more. IMO, it would be a blow to the program if he’s not named. Mack is more than competent and would be successful and he and his whole family are a credit to the program and the University and I would surely pull for him, but Russell is the man.
One more scrimmage to navigate.

Russell has a higher ceiling than Mack bottom line.
Mack is an excellent QB we probably make the playoffs with either guy, but I think Keelon has the juice to make some gamechanging plays in key matches.

I like Mack. I think Bama could win quite a few games with him and if he transfers out next Spring, I think he could/would probably start at 80-90 per cent of the schools out there.
HOWEVER, IMO, the biggest difference between the two is Russell's ability to extend plays and avoid pressure. Mack can run some, he's not Freddie Kitchens back there but he's not all that mobile. Considering the O line is still a work in progress, this is the deciding factor, IMO.

Going by Grubb. He talked of the offense finding a rhythm, stringing together scoring drives, OL settling in and “close to making a QB announcement” . Who was making the plays and what linemen were separating themselves ?
ETA - Wommack has mentioned that a two deep is forming and they will get the majority of reps from here on out. So yeah sounds like some positions are shaping up

Here is a goody from your namesake after A-day 1977, running up to the NC team of 1978.
Bryant declared that the 1978 team would have "a questionable offense, an average kicking game, and a good defense".
That was Buddy Aydelette, Jeff Ruttledge, Tony Nathan, Major Ogilvie, Dwight Stephenson, Billy Jackson, Bill Searcey, Jim Bunch. They primarily ran the ball out of the wishbone, and absolutely owned opposing defenses. Put up around 280 yards against Nebraska to start the '78 season.
Oh, and yes. That defense was stout.

Ive heard Waldrep is likely the starter at LG. There was talk that he was doing very well at practice last year. Maybe he is a dude. I dont know much about Waldrep, but I kinda prefer an athletic build at LG as opposed to some of the jumbo fat guys we see sometimes. Waldrep is listed at 6'5 325. That's a big boy but I dont think he is carrying a lot of bad weight.

Thanks man, didn't mean for my question to have the tone it did. Was genuinely curious because I hadn't had a chance to see any reports after the last couple of practices.
