Does this year seem like a major pivot for CFB?

Maybe im overthinking things...but it sure does seem like this season and offseason will be a point we look back and say yeah 2025 was when it all changed.

It sure does seem like this was the last gasp of the pre-NIL era of winning via stockpiling HS talent and developing it is done. By all accounts Georgia and Alabama are now is the bellcow of this old way. Georgia has no CFB wins and Bama has 1 win with one asskicking, ironically by the very team that most represents the new way.

Football is a copycat sport and every coach that lacks true ingenuity(most of them) will go all in on trying to copy everything Indiana does.

It just seems like cfb is gonna see a major shakeup in next 5-10 years

I still expect the Big Ten and SEC to expand more and split off from the rest within a decade or so. Sure some big schools are having trouble retaining talent but the majority of schools (mostly G6) are not going to keep putting up with losing their whole team every year. They can’t keep up at all

I'd still like to see what Cig does without a team full of 23yr olds first. I honestly think this yr is his best & only shot at winning a title. He can duck all the P4 ooc games hes wants. Sooner or later their schedule will line up with him having to play the top 3-4 teams in the BIG in the same season.

I know everyone says this. And I don't know how much I mean it, or when it will happen...but there's just something about a 5 million dollar quarter back that can change schools 4 times in four years.

frick all that. The spirit of the sport is gone. This is now the NFL, but with no salary cap, unrestricted free agency, etc. And I don't like the NFL.

I may be on the way out.

Yep. There was a time I was a massive fan of the San Antonio Spurs. As a kid I watched NASCAR. Once there's nothing special about it, I tend not to watch as much anymore.

Just wait until they start trading players mid season!

College football is losing a lot of interest by people tired of seeing the inmates(players) run the asylums with NIL demands. I have never been less interested and our current coaching staff's approach only makes it worse.

I used to follow recruiting religiously under Saban. Now I can’t keep up nor do I care too anymore.

Ed Zackery

I started to feel this way in the 2022 season. Of course, I am old as hell and need to hit the portal myself (with no offers).

As a coach if you truly don’t believe a HS recruit will start by year 2 you shouldn’t recruit them. The days of seasoning are over. HS recruiting should be for players like Crowell and Keelon. Put a larger chunk of NIL on the offensive line and defensive line. Superstars from the portal should be treated as one off players because you will probably lose them or have to pay more than they are worth to keep them. This is the retarded NFL

Yeah absolutely. The players don't care anymore. They're getting insane money win or lose.

No program loyalty. Everyone is a hired gun.

If the players don't care, and they're all making 10-20 times more money than the fans, why in the frick should we care anymore?

It sure seems like a pivotal year for Bama. If CKD and Courtney Morgan screw the pooch here and don’t quickly lock down some good offensive and defensive linemen.

Alabama football is in a pivotal moment.

I've mentioned it before but what happened to us in the Rose Bowl bears a resemblance to the 2005 Peach Bowl where LSU beat Miami 40-3. Miami followed up their loss in the 2002 season's BCS title game with an 11-2 season in 2003. In 2004 they took an additional step back to 9-3 and in 2005 they entered the Peach Bowl 9-2. Watching LSU thoroughly dismantle Miami really ended the mystique around Miami. They'd been slipping for a few years but that was the final nail in the coffin of their run of dominance in the early 2000s.

Will that Rose Bowl be remembered similarly or will it be the turbulence required for this regime to get their program running like we all hope?

Tom Osborne would thrive in this environment.

Eventually they'll put rules into place where it won't be this crazy.

Id like to see cfb copy the nfl in all regards, number of teams, players union, nfl owners group etc. Only way you'll control it. The fact we've got 132 or more football teams is nuts.
