We have snap count issues which leads to false start penalties due to a new center...who wasn't even the center at the beginning of the season. Wills is one of the most athletic OL in the country and the schools who beat us would love to have a player of his caliber.

I kind of just have a feeling that some of those guys stay.

But, I know that its hard to stare a lot of money in the face when you are 20, 21 years old, and then turn it down and risk injury, especially with Alabama's recent injury luck. But, you see it happen a good bit with several teams. IDK, we'll see.

I do too, honestly. But I keep telling myself to shut the hell up and not listen to Positive SOG.

I'm expecting at least one of the junior WRs to return because this is a deep WR draft pool coming up.

Why? I’m not seeing any thing special about him. All I remember him for are all the penalties he accrued.

I'm with ya, the penalty stuff was bad. He also manhandled guys the 2nd half of the season.

Didn't he pancake Derrick Brown? It takes an animal to do something like that. I can live with the penalties as long as he does stuff like that.

Edit: it was Marlon Davidson, and it was more that he kind of flattened him. Point stands.

Fair. I’ll go back and look at games during that time frame. I’m not hating on the guy, it just seems like he had a huge share of penalties; a lot in critical situations.

No he definitely did - I agree.

Some of Wills false starts were due to LD not snapping the ball timely. Even when Dionte was signaling LD to snap it, he hesitated too long more than once.

I don't blame a guy who gets a 2nd round grade for going. A guy who gets a late round grade isn't exactly risking much by coming back though. There's no where to go but up. An injury obviously wouldn't help, but with modern medicine there is practically no such thing as a career ending injury unless you're talking about a guy who is in the last year or two of his career anyway. A 7th rounder or UDFA who comes back, gets hurt, and misses half the season is still a 7th rounder or UDFA.

Realistically, Bama could be looking at losing 8 starters on defense

That is crazy given how young the front 7 seemed this year. I guess it was all seniors and freshman with very little in between.

and 8 on offense when counting seniors.

This is also crazy since NONE of the offensive starters have even exhausted their eligibility. Without early departures literally the ENTIRE starting offense would be back.

It would be huge imo to get the following a couple guys back on each side of the ball. Not counting the guys that seem like a 1st round lock (Tua, Jeudy, etc) these are the two from each side of the ball that I want:

Defense:

Dylan Moses - a healthy Dylan Moses in the middle of the defense next year would be BIG

Xavier McKinney - having him back at safety along with Surtain at CB would solidify the back end

Offense:

One of the receivers - I guess the only real candidate is Smith. If we had Smith and Waddle as 1/2 then drop off from this year to next might be negligible (assuming just one of the next guys up can step up)

One of the tackles - probably a pipe dream but if one of Leatherwood or Wills dropped in the pre-draft build up that would be incredible to get one back to provide some stability to the line. Hate losing both tackles in the same year.

I think if I had my choices on offense it would be Najee and Smitty.

We’ve recruited very well at Oline for years. We expect big things out of Trey Sanders but he’s still unproven. I’m sure Ford and K. Robinson are nice players in their own right, but I hate going into next season without a certified bellcow. When was the last time that’s happened? I guess Coffee took a big leap from ‘07 to ‘08, but we’ve always had and experienced player expected to lead the backfield since then. Mark, Trent, Eddie, TJ, Derrick, Damien/JJ, Najee. I don’t like the idea of starting next season with Brian Robinson first on the depth chart

I didn't include Najee because it just seems almost certain he is going to strike while the iron is hot. RBs almost always do better going a year earlier in the draft. He has been on a tear and I think his stock has risen.

I guess there is an idea that the RB class this year is really stacked so perhaps he thinks he could get higher next year.

This year is:

D'Andre Swift (maybe the only guy getting 1st round talk out there)

And then a bunch that seem to be clustered together that could be anywhere in 2nd to 5th round range:

Najee Harris
Chuma Hubbard
JK Dobbins
Travis Etienne
Cam Akers
Kylin Hill
Zack Moss
Lamichal Perine
KeShawn Vaughn

I'm sure there are others. I don't follow the draft enough to know if this is a more crowded tier of top guys than usual or if this is pretty much what it would look like for Najee next year too.

LOL, what the frick have you been watching? Wills MAULS people in the running game. He tossed Derrick Brown around like a rag doll all fricking game. Would love to have him back because I do think he can improve in pass pro

I think Mack Wilson is a great example of why you should come back.

He went in the 5th round and he signed 2.8 mil over 4 years.

Christian Miller went 4th round and signed a 3.2 mil contract over 4 years.

Rashaan Evans who went 22nd had a 11.5 mil guaranteed contract over 4 years.

He's having a great year but he won't get any extra money until 2022, and will make less than Dylan Moses if he goes first round.

Mack is definitely the best example of why sometimes it pays to stay. His agent got paid, the Browns got a steal and Mack was paid a third of what he should have been

Dobbins and Etienne will probably go first round too. They have speed.

Deonte Thompson and Harrison perfect examples of people who should have stayed and earned First Round status. Would be set for life. Now they have to make it to the second contract, that too playing at a high level.

I don't know if it's possible but if there is a way to go back and watch the games from skycam (behind the LOS) and watch Wills. I know little about line play but its obvious when he opens that right side
